The words I write are simple I'm as simple as they come. I'll never be the best poet But I'm an okay one! I write simple rhymes, Expressed with words understood, But I'll continue learning As every person should. So don't look to me for perfection Here it won't be found But if you enjoy simplicity You can stop looking now! :)

I am married, going on 18 years to a sweet heart of a man, Harvey. We have 2 children. Our daughter, Rosalie,is 17 years old and a blessing everyday. Our son Hunter Harvey lives with God until we meet again. He passed away at 2 months old from SIDS.

We are a happy little family living in the mountains of West Virginia. I'm a teacher by profession, an ordained non denominational Christian minister , and I love to write, play ukulele, sing, sew, craft, cook, read/ listen to audiobooks and study my Bible.

I'm originally from New Hampshire but moved here in 2002. We have one little dog, a chihuahua jack Russell mix named Sassy, a gold fish named Sushi, a female calico cat named Sookie, and 2 male cats. The oldest named Salem(he's all black), and a tiny male kitten named PorkChop or Chopper...a long haired orange and white stripe.

(I know we dropped the"S" name for the last kitten... but we are only fostering until our friend can keep him.. Otherwise we'd have named him, Sunny!;)

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.( Numbers 6:24-26 KJV)

Writers Are Readers

Do you agree? Most writers are also voracious readers. I was about 12 when I began my love affair with books. From some scandalous VC Andrews, to more sedate Charles Dickins (Great Expectations <3).

I discovered Audible, an app that has thousands of books on audio format to download, about 7 years ago. Now I listen to approximately 6-8 books per month! I listen while I drive, cook, clean, sew, craft, just about everything one can do on autopilot! ( driving is the exception to the rule) I haven't watched television in 5 years, excepting the occasional family movie night or football game.

Anywho...I thought I'd share some of my favorites and ask that you do the same? I'm looking for more great reads, uhhum... listens.

My favorite books:The Outlander series by Diana Gabalden, The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, anything written by Stephen King, but faves include, Hearts of Atlantis, The Eye of the Dragon, The Talisman and sequel, Black House,...oh who am I kidding, they're all my favorite! I enjoy some of Dean Koontz novels and Morgan Rice, Brandon Sanderson, and Joe Hill are also favorite authors.

If you've read any of the above books, let me know what you thought! And Please share your favorites with me and help me fill up my library for 2025!

Thanks and God bless you! Happy New Year! Xoxo,

Crystol

i always had my head stuck in a book from an early age, and certain ones made a big impression..i remember i got obsessed with wuthering heights when i was about 8 or 9 and insisted that everyone at school called me cathy after one of the main characters lol george orwell is a good 'un, i like stephen king but only his early stuff, daphne du maurier's rebecca and a short story the blue lenses about a woman who has lenses fitted in her eyes and sees anew, people appearing as animals that reflect their true inner natures..i prefer modern literature, astonishing splashes of colour by clare morrall is one that sticks in my mind, it was shortlisted for the booker prize one year

For a lighter take on the classics, one could read the spinoffs, eg Wuthering Heights According to Spike Milligan.

Ahhh another Wuthering Heights fan. So many versions have been done on the story as a movie but I must say, the actor playing Heathcliff in the 1973 version was breathtakingly handsome to me

I read on average 4 books a month over a large scope of genre - some memorable, others decidedly forgettable. I was that kid with the torch under the bed, so there are many favourites over the years. Sometimes a book stays with one long after you close it - it never leaves you. The Sheltering Sky, by Paul Bowls; The Poisonwood Bible, by Barbara Kingsolver; Margaret Atwood for poetry and novels, just to mention some. Thanks for a nice blog, Crystol. Happy New Year :)

Clearly a fantasy girl. Lord of the Rings and Hobbit. I've been bitten by the Agatha Christie/Poirot bug. 1930's sleuthing. Classics. Anything Hemingway, Dickens, Austen, Wouk, Steinbeck, Carr, Silva, Connelly, Hammett, Ortberg, Chandler...eclectic tastes. Never ending opportunities. =o]]

What’s going on in Trudeau’s Canada? His Ministry of Truth has a bill before parliament to jail people for life for “hate speech”. They want to jail you for mean tweets. These woke radical left censorship loving lunatics use 1984 as a guide book. These are the same people who invited a Nazi to the Canadian parliament and gave him a standing ovation. Are Canadians that dumb and brainwashed? Never would happen under Trump.

Oh wow. You like some of my fave authors Koontz and King. I kinda stopped reading once VCR came out because now I am a huge movie addict. But I was a voracious reader into my 20s. I read all the Nancy Drew series as a child. Three books that stand out for me in high school were Clan of the Cave Bear ( a trilogy). Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Wuthering Heights. Among many many others. These days I only read when I am traveling! Happy New Year. Nice blog.

What about anthologies of short stories. I loved all the ones I read of Hitchcock, Sterling, Bradbury, etc. Even Stephen King wrote really profound short stories. I love short stories because they are exciting and don't take up so much time.

Went to see Nosferatu last night. A bit long and a bit predictable but it was okay. Johnny Depp’s daughter played the demon possessed girl. She just closed her eyes and channelled her inner Amber Heard.
