Childhood Days I’d heap spoonfuls of sugar in my tea I wouldn’t drink it without it you see That sweet syrupy drink Wasn’t poured down the sink Every single drop was supped up by me! Adulthood Dad’s diabetes made me think - Did I need to sweeten my drink So I cut sugar out And I don’t have a doubt I’m slimmer and I’m in the pink Contest: Two Lenses Sponsor Sara Kendrick 02~20~16

Thank you for participating in my contest “Two Lenses”..It was an honor to read your entry..Sara..Diabetes has hit both my husband and myself plus two of our children..One child is fighting it tooth and nail by keeping her weight down and not eating nor drinking much sugar..I think that inheritance plays the biggest role in developing it..Sara

Hey Jan ... this will be a great entry, I think, and I used to do the same thing. We always had sweet iced tea in the fridge, but after awhile, I started taking it plain (and hot), and found the sweet tea a bit overwhelming.

well I, too, don't indulge in the sweets....but only because toothaches are no treat....they cause so much pain....but you just can't complain....because only you decide what you eat....very insightful write jan....lots of my family members have diabetes.....

I have a good friend with diabetes but it is not the end of the world. The sweets are so tempting but there are many things we can use in place of sugar. Excellent Limerick Jan. Keep posting the pics

I agree Tim:-) In the past I have been criticised for posting pictures but as a PM we can use the facility and I don't think one picture detracts from a poem:-) hugs Jan xx

GREAT job, Jan. Though I bet you don't really hate sugar today, now do you? You should have seen ME with the sugar in childhood. I'd have made a diabetic swoon.

Excellent take on this Two Lenses theme, Jan. At the same time you are passing a healthy message which is not to be ignored. Very recently my friend died, a few days before he was meant to have his leg amputated. ~ Hugs // paul

Thanks for adding that comment Paul. We have a friend he has had both feet amputated and has lost his sight simply because he would not follow his diet - people do not seem to realise how serious diabetes can be if they do not follow a sensible diet:-( hugs jan xx
