Notes About The Poem

We don't have an ideal choice (monster vs cadaver). However, monster's election foreshadows the end of democracy. Nevertheless, many worship him as deity-like despite his obvious lies and denials of wrongdoing:

the cult continues

Religious right-wing revivial
Sustains Supremo’s survival
With maga culture
Chirps convict’s vulture
Our god’s not dead on arrival

Thanks Karen, the choice we had....(monster vs cadaver) has transformed to....normal vs monster. We're hoping the normal people who can smile and laugh can defeat the self-absorbed psychotic one who never laughs or smiles.

A criminal to take over America and influence the whole world with his lies is death to democracy. His right wing revival spells chaos my prayers lie with Pamela Harris. Dear Duke, a stunning limerick about democracy facing peril by a horrible leader revered despite his flaws. The poem concerns a religious right-wing revival supporting an opposing leader, which undermines democracy. You vividly describe him as a deity despite his lies and wrongdoings. SP, you cut to the chase! It seems more clear every day that we have a cult candidate who will do evil if allowed to handle the reigns of power. Many of us are not smiling at the prospect of this and would like to see him crushed at the polls.

Anaya, it's certainly hard to reach some people. It's not easy to be open as it takes a lot of work to reorganize neural pathways! Perhaps a few will open up a little bit. Doubt is a good thing as it makes us search harder for the truth. However, doubt is not always pleasant for some. It's easier to just stay the same...that is for sure. I still have a few friends who believe climate change and global warming are a hoax. I sent one person some peer-reviewed research and he appeared to change his mind. However, then he watched Fox News and reverted back to his original stance.

Fran, your comment reflects empathy and insight on your part. I can share that this does give me some pause, but it's how I feel and I will not succumb to fear. I also enjoy hearing from those who disagree and try to understand their logic. I think a lot of people are hurting and looking for some kind of simple or quick solution to their anger. We also have an issue with truth in broadcasting. I personally like NPR and PBS because they present multiple sides of each issue and try to include some history. The Wall Street Journal and NYT are also good sources of information that are readily available to many.

Andrea, thanks for reading and your comments! Always appreciated. As for your comment below, I hope the new world order you disparage is North Korea/Russian/Chinese communist totalitarianism and not what most liberals suggest in the USA (I'm not talking about what a few crazy people might suggest...rather items like national health care, environmental protection, and preservation of social security). What we do need is action based on fact. So, we should carefully examine all the facts and history that concern our environment, immigration, the economy, the electoral process, human rights, global conflict and more. The process toward a better society might occur best as a series of small steps and definitely not taking on the vision of the right or left. It should occur based on sound principles of peer reviewed science and governance...based on truth, love and compassion.

I lost many (right wing) poet friends, knew what I was diving into, yet felt the need for women’s rights, which doesn’t mean I’m for abortions, (statistics say most abortions given are the white privileged. They go unnoticed. They fly to other places $ no object. they can afford it! Running as an independent means nothing, says nothing about his political affiliation! Kennedy is a conspiracy theorist, has promoted anti-vaccine misinformation etc His own family the Kennedys shun his candidacy

Yes SO, it's part of a political trend. Here in the US, it's simply a means to appeal to people's worst sentiments so that a group of self-serving individuals can keep or get back power. When campaigns talk about immediate conditions with no context including root causes, and with media that reinforces the message, we have a real problem. It's hard to reason this with people who have susceptibility to this sort of propaganda.

An interesting limerick. Each line has the scope of a two to four hour debatable content. The only ray of hope is that, whether good or bad, the winner only gets four years, unless the unconstitutional left wants to upset law and make despotism permanent.

Whether election was stolen or not, I'd have preferred that Trump kept his mouth shut.To really know Liz Cheney on has to know her father. Both are clever. I said that Liz would be president. She has the ruthless qualifications for it. I disliked both Bushes, Dick Cheney, but my most hated to this day was that crook Paulson. He should be the convicted. I am not happy with globalization, nor being instructed on what I have to buy. Electric cars will also impact the environment. Plastic is the worst invention ever.

Hilda, I am no Biden lover....I think he should not run. However, could we possibly agree on one thing? Will you agree the 2020 election was not stolen and that no evidence was presented to any court that cast doubt on the presidential election? If you could accept that fact, you might begin to understand what bothers people like Liz Chaney...and she is no left wing radical. I could vote for her for President even though I am a liberal democrat because at least she understands the importance of our democratic institutions. This is a great discussion really. What is the purpose of continuing to claim the election was stolen?

Thanks Arthur. I'm worried. The debate coming up should prove interesting, and I am curious what it may reveal. One has to prove sanity and the other has to prove cognitive ability. It's really something strange we've come too and does not portend well no matter what happens.

Like ive always said dear duke, sometimes i look around, so many places in the world, and how so many support some politicians like as if its a cult! Its truly like one, sadly, and i wonder why? Are they not aware? Of all the lies etc. not just in this case. I dont openly always comment about my political views cus it may come off a bit too harsh or offensive for readers. However i love your rhymes and thats one creative picture right there hah! You are very artistic! IE, many thanks. I think a lot of our people hold some anger about being left behind, and certain politicians can tap into that feeling. We've had poetry here where we discussed how blaming someone else presents a tempting choice as opposed to taking responsibility and moving ahead, but our government's malaise and stalemating in the US hasn't necessarily helped people move on. We all get very busy sometimes and a lot of competing duties exist in life. I intend to be here as much as I can, but at times it just gets difficult. I sent your poem, regarding your creative impulses (Tropical Topaz Tranquility) to an old friend of mine who had asked about what I have been reading. Your work is very inspirational and appreciated in all kinds of ways--even some not on the site.

Monster worshippers... isn't that bizarre? The convict's carnivores are circling, hoping to feast on the flesh of the other. It's a MAGA MESS just the way it's been in the US for almost 8 years. Millions of people and those 2 are... ridiculous. Duke, your point is well made, but like Jan's most recent post, there are those who continue to worship him.
