A Ukrainian Mother Cries Out
Picture in your mind, a 70 year old mother and grandmother, hitchhiking from her village into a war shattered town of Bucha, desperately looking for her son's dead body. Wanting to bring his body home for burial.
She was a heartbroken mother, who refused to leave Ukraine without knowing where her son was. Word had reached her that her son was shot by Russian troops in a nearby town of Bucha. Her son had driven toward Bucha to get better cell phone reception to call his own son, for his birthday. Wanting to wish him a happy birthday. Sadly he was shot during his drive.
She through the endless hours of walking and tears, while the war was raging around her, was Determined to find him. She came upon some Ukrainian soldiers. They told her to go back to her village, they weren't finished with the paperwork on her son's death. She tied a scarf to the body bag, and went back home in schock. Hitchhiking and walking the many miles back. Eventually the government officials released his body to her.
She now needed a casket that cost ninety dollars, a months salary. Her pension, that she counted on was held back because of the war. She had no money. Naydiya made extra money by growing vegetables and selling them, but her potatoes had withered because she was in her home when the Russians were attacking and she failed to plant them in time.
She told a reporter who saw her, "I feel so lost inside. What will become of our lives now, how will we survive, what will we do, how will we eat?" All her life she worked to give her children a better life, and education, her dreams were wiped out by a madman named Putin.
Finally on Saturday this heartbroken mother was finally reunited with the love of her life. In a small cemetery, she wept clutching to a donated casket, as her beloved son Vadym, slowly was lowered into the ground and was buried.
No matter who you are, or where you are, a mothers love, is a love of never giving up or letting go.
It is a love that knows no fear, and will not allow failure, no matter how impossible the circumstances are.
Nadiya 's love, will, and determination was shown in finding her beloved son, by risking her own life.
Oh Nadiya when I read your story, my heart cried out for you.
I can't imagine what you went through.
I wish I could have eased your deep felt pain.
and hoped you can have a life again.
Peace be with you all the days of your life,
and always remember, Jesus walked by your side.
