Whiskers That Free W T F Contest

Whiskers That Free Inspired by the painting Magdalena Ventura with Her Husband and Son by Jusepe de Ribera, 1631. The painting shows a bearded lady with her husband, breastfeeding an infant. Viewing the painting will (perhaps) make sense of the poem God gave me the chance to win By placing whiskers on my chin I feed my child from my form The extra hair keeps my husband warm Aged 52 third child I nurse My face keeps money in my purse Nature's wonder is my gloat Or my long beard ala billy goat I know I'm sure to draw the crowd Oh joy to be bearded and well endowed Forget his beard, styled for fashion parade It's me, oh me who does get paid I can do it all, fame, nurse, cook and clean Quiz my guy about where he's been He'll never get another looker like me World renowned and incredible fertility My name is Magdalena Ventura magnifique I'm beautifully well paid for being unique 25th May 2023 W T F Poetry Contest Sponsored by: John Lawless

Thanks John, I didn't like to spoil it by having to blur out such a significant element of the image but felt it perhaps not worth getting a ban for. I do hope you googled it, it's well worth it x

Thanks Jan - I could have been a bit tamer, I think I fully committed to the prompt in a way that wasn't anticipated haha, at least I didn't upload the image x

Congratulations on your win DD! This ekphrasis well describes this painting - The Bearded Lady - from her point of view. Very original. Very unique. As you know I do love your ekphrasis! Blessings to you.

Thank you, you are very lovely to keep the reminders coming. This was perhaps a detour from my usual ekphrasis to fit the contest and for some reason it became a bit clunky - but perhaps that's what the painting required :) thanks for your supportive words

hahaha ... the comment below regarding your '5 o'clock shadow'. Your new avatar has put paid to the mistaken identity. Nice take on the WTF (also known as 'where's the fire' ...) contest prompt, DD.

Thanks or perhaps, where's the facial (hair)? Thought I'd best clear up any confusion with a photo of me clean shaven, erm I mean with me in the sunlight :)

Your poem sure made me smile - a hazard of getting older for us ladies. I know bearded ladies used to be shown as circus freaks - now we just pluck the stray hairs lol:-) fabulous humour thanks for sharing:-) hugs jan x

Just giving hope to the over 40s. Perhaps also adding to my own intrigue - is that a 5 o clock shadow on my picture?
