Spooky Halloween Poetry Contest sponsored by Tania Kitchin 10/11/23

Streets are packed with ghouls and ghosts Their spooky costumes scare me the most I see skeletons, zombies and vampires too With pumpkin lanterns as they march through Knocking on doors shouting ”Trick or treat” And getting gifts of candies oh so sweet I pity the elderly folk at this time of year As no one should be made to live in fear I’ve heard of older kids acting really mean Though smashed eggs on doors are rarely seen But there’s one thing that I have to say Here it’s not Halloween it is ‘Hop Tu Naa’

Jan, congratulations on your win! You highlighted all the aspects of Halloween even to the ugly practical jokes by teens! A great bird's eye view! Blessings and hug to you!

Many congratulations dear Jan with your winning placement. Really enjoyed it! I was thinking of you today with regards to that awful storm we had as I know it charged across the islands. Hope it didn’t affect you too much. We were ok here in my neck of the woods. Hugs and smiles to you xx :):)

Your right, Jan: we should pity the elderly on Halloween. Still, we make up for it a few days later… by letting off ‘Whizz Bang’ rockets and ‘bangers’ ;-) Enjoyed your winning write. Congratulations. Terry

I would love to hear the song. What a wonderful, fun to pronounce name: "Hop Tu Naa" I wish children would do that, or something similiar here in the U.S. Halloween itself..BOO-HUM-BUG!

We have not seen a Trick or Treater at my house in 3 years. I think that this holiday custom is dying.

Hop Tu Naa, I've learned a new word. In my neighborhood, children don't come around. They all met at a church, mall, or the schools for safety. Enjoyed reading.

Hop Tu Naa celebrated on your beloved island. In Malta, we are still not enthusiastic about Halloween. Good thing, I have to do without sweets. Blessings.

We don't tend to get many kids doing the trick or treat not by us anyway - it is called Hop Tu Naa on the Island:-) there is a song the children are supposed to sing to earn their treats but more often its knock and wait for sweets lol:-) hugs Jan xx
