Spurkey

Who brought the Spam to the first Thanksgiving? The Pilgrims brought the Spam I think The Indian’s brought something to drink Though history books do not repeat it There's more to do with corn then eat it A spurkey is a wondrous sight All pink and juicy if cooked right Shaping it's a little quirky But you can make it look like turkey So what's your pleasure, breast or thigh? Or other part you'd like to try? No light or dark meat, it's a shame All the parts taste just the same The best part is, there is no waste And also, you don't have to baste But unlike birds raised in a coop There are no bones for sprukey soup Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

CUTE poem!! Love the last line. yeah, others have told me to write more free. But it is difficult for me to do because I think in meter. It involves a lot of skill to write good free verse. A certain magical way with saying things uniquely. I sure wish it came to me more often.

Thanks Andrea. I have some tell me they don't like free verse. See it as a cop out and feel it is harder to write metered rhyme. May have a point. I like both.

Great funny one..Spam is a staple in our house..When there is nothing else, pull out the spam..Have you ever sliced, floured and fried it in cooking oil?..It is edible..It will feed a lot with some vegetables and corn bread or biscuits...If for a contest, reads like a winner to me..Thanks for taking time to read and comment on my work..Sara

Actually Sara, I have had it fried, or browned in a pan, but not in oil. Goes well with baked beans instead of hotdogs. And my mom used to make spamburgers on a bun.

Lord, save us from the "spurkey"! This is hilarious, Bob. How in the world would you shape Spam this way? And the taste -- oh no, say it isn't so! Happy Thanksgiving to you, my friend. Love, Carolyn
