Sisterly Examples

When I was young, I had a great disdain
for Campell's nasty soup named Alphabet.
One Saturday it was our mother's threat
we had to eat it up or home remain
and miss the matinee. How inhumane!
Mom left the room; I never will forget
the thing which I'd repeat without regret -
I took that slop and tossed it down the drain!

When Mom returned, I'd "downed" all of my soup.
Again she left; Mel went to dump HER meal
and at the sink got caught. Poor nincompoop!
She missed "Red Riding Hood" while I, the heel,
went out. Our mom was left "out of the loop."
My little sister did not even squeal!

(Some slang words here for my non-native friends:
a "nincompoop" is a foolish person,
"out of the loop" means to never be aware of something
and the last verb "squeal" means to "tell on someone"
I always tried to get away with murder when I was young
and I can't believe my sister missed the movie by not telling
on me! On the other hand, I really enjoyed "Red Riding Hood" heehee)

This is great! Too bad you hated alphabet soup, I always had fun spelling words with my soup, until my parents would scold me for playing with my food, haha! Really fun sonnet, though I feel sad for Mel!

My sister always reminds me of how I was careless enough to get caught for doing the same thing she did. What was that, you ask? :)

Campbell's soup? RETCH. Retch means to throw up violently. Do you know the old English word, Fopdoodle? A fopdoodle is a low fellow. All through elementary school I would walk the two blocks to our home and be presented with a bowl of Campbell's soup. Short of money in college, I ate too much of the soup and got sick one night. YOur poem is a gem and a warning to all soup eaters. Love, daver

Oh you were quite a brat, Andrea! It was a shame to waste, imagine all the words you could have created with those noodles.:)) Ah, "sisters"; friends come and go, but a sister will never leave the heart. A wolf and "Red Riding Hood" situation and event.:) Best wishes, Mikki

Oh yes here we go again, as i said before Andrea, the words you use, are so similar, i think your upbringing was rural, i'm sure David from my neighbouring county Lancashire would agree. anyhow i digress. wonderful sonnet, so well written, so interesting to read. harry
