Rhythm and Blues

They want our rhythm but not our blues They envy our natural melanin yet tan too We wear our style and they call it hood They copy it now and say it’s all good They want to erase our heroes and heroines Because there’s a power in the skin we’re in King, Tubman, Malcom X, Garvey and more are Past heroes guiding future black American stars They say it’s DEI and continue to denim deny Racist goals and faulty souls as the reason why Black is resilient beautiful and brilliant so true You enslaved raped murdered hate, we don’t need you

Tell it sis! They don’t want to hear the truth, especially when they are trying to erase our history. Powerful poem!

I always remember a quote from Martin Luther King, he said "It wasn't the words from my enemies that upset me, but the silence from my friends ",as for me I want your rhymes and your blues.

That first line is so very interesting . It sets the tone for all the rest. I used to teach black history for a while and the civil rights movement to my ESL students. How brave of the freedom fighters to stand up to the racists at the peril of their lives. I love the story of Harriet Tubman and so many others . I think the world is so much better now, but sadly there are still some out there who continue the hate.

Powerful write, Karen! Emphatic! ... I think it would be even more powerful if it were all positivity. I.e., written without pointing any fingers at 'them.'

I was just saying how powerful your poem is, and how I felt it might be made even more powerful. That's all. No hard feelings at all on my part. It's an awesome write, as is. ~ Gershon

What is and what has happened is not all positive. Anne Frank’s diary was not all positive!

It’s truth and I stand on it! No need to sugarcoat anything especially since they are erasing history. You are entitled to your opinion and may write as you see fit as I have. Hugs

That first line is a riveting kicker, Karen. I enjoyed how the poem poured it on, really did, feeling rolled in an admirable poetic fashion. You tell 'em, girl ... CayCay
