Losing My Best Friend

When you first get your dog there is a wonderful joy, like he is one of your own children. You go through a get to know each other period and a Special bond is developed, with you and him. You soon grow to love one another. He is part of the family, he is there to love you when you get home from work, and there to say goodnight before you go to bed. There is a bonding and interaction that develops affectionately between everyone in the family and your beloved dog. He is the king of the house. My brother Gus, his wife Elena, son Brandon, and daughter Briana can attest to these words. My brother decided to answer a dog ad for a Pug. When he got there he realized he had a sister and he decided to bring her along too. Not wanting to separate a brother and sister. The boy was named Jeter after the Yankees player and the girl Lucy after Lucille Ball. This is their story. Jeter and Lucy were Pugs that were inseparable. You can say that they were very attached and compatible. Everywhere Jeter went Lucy followed. One day they got loose and got in a bit of trouble. The family spent hours looking for them. They were found down the street, both with a Cheshire grin. Both were brought home and no treats for a week. That didn't last long, they begged and got their treat. If Lucy got a treat Jeter, would ask, what about me? They were quite the team, full of drama and comedy. These two spent many years enjoying each other's company. Some lovable moments and some very funny. The joy they brought to the family, will forever live on. As their beloved Jeter today Sadly moved On. Lucy was there till Jeter's final Breaths. She knew because she cried at the time of his death. She then moved and laid her head on him. With much love, whispered, "Jeter some day, I will see you Again." Gus and Elena filmed her farewell. As their Heartfelt emotions, were saddened and deeply felt. Tonight will be Lucys first night without Her brother. We pray that in time Lucy recovers... Jeter will live on in Our Hearts and minds. He will never be forgotten says: Lucy, Gus, Elena, Brandon and Briana. Michael Tor

Found this one I missed in Jan, Michael, a touching story, my friend. Animals can be just as much a part of family as people; a loss of one can be devistating to all in the family. It's been awhile, so I imagine, Lucy has recovered, and the rest of the family as well. Thank for sharing the things of your heart with us through your poetry, Michael. I hope life is going well for you. I miss your poetry. A poet friend in Texas, Bill

you must have had some wonderful moments with them, dogs are trusting, lovable and innocent. Sad that one has to lose their partner first, and be left alone . Humans go through this same transition, it is a heartfelt lose when the lse their beloved dog. Mine was, my brown LAB (Coco) who died at 3 years old with leukemia. Keep well and save Michael.I enjoyed your happy/sad write very much. Hugs, Blessings, Jennifer. PS. Harry commented on my last poem, I don't he is unwell any more, praise God. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Every person's heart can find a way to respond to a narrative about love for animals. In the tone of this poem, I can sense both the delight and subsequently the loss that the family felt. Michael, you've managed to lovingly communicate some treasured recollections.

I am sorry for you to have to go through the pain of a loss like this Anne-Lise but that pain we feel is reflective on the love we had for them. The cycle of Life sometimes it is difficult to deal with. Thank you Dear for your comment, hope you are happy and well. God bless you...

Jenna first I am so sorry for your loss. Yes this was an emotional write for me. Thinking of my brother and his pain, his wife and children, and Lucy Jeter's sister. I did get emotional in writing this. We don't think that the puppy we have and grow to love someday will leave us and it is a chapter in our lives that hurts and forever stays with us. All animal lovers know this. Someday I believe we meet up with all our little friends up there over the rainbow in a place called Heaven. Thank you Jenna for your comforting words, thank you for stopping by...

Such a sweet story, though quite sad too. I feel for Lucy and your brother and family. To lose a pet that has been with us for years is like losing a member of the family. Michael, your story telling skill is once more brought to the fore.

Thank you Valsa. Yes we all feel for Lucy. Her and Jeter were inseparable. Jeter before passing had a constant cough. Sometimes it was all night. My brother and sister in law had to deal with his chronic illness. It tore at their hearts for many sleepless nights. Troopers they were to comfort their beloved Jeter through all of his turmoil. The last night alive my brother and his wife Elena were up all night with Jeter comforting him. They felt like Jeter's parents and Jeter being their son. Now it is over and the healing begins for all including Lucy Jeters sister. The cycle of life is always there to remind us how precious life is whether it is a beloved animal or a human being. Thank you Valsa for your kind words. Have a lovely day...

Great story, Michael. Yep, dogs immediately become part of our family. We too had two biological dogs (sisters) Shylo and Twixx...Twixx passed four years again and Shylo is still with us. I can still sense that she misses her sister as she waits, sitting on our bay window every morning looking out.

...my father realized Gaston had walked off. He frantically went looking for him. He looked and saw Gaston by the Ocean cliff. What was remarkable was The shepherd was walking on the outside of him along the cliff. If it wasn't for the dog protecting him like that, my parents thought he might have fallen to the rocks below. Animals are a lot smarter than what we give them credit to be. Shylo will always remember Twixx no doubt about that Charlie.

Charlie they know, they have a sense like we do when someone close to us departs. Dogs are amazing. I heard of so many stories where The owner and their dog go for a long walk in the woods and sadly the owner dies, and three, four days later that dog is right by their owner not leaving. They are so loyal and loving toward their human family. Another story I want to share with you. My brother Gaston ran of with our Golden Shepherd Tabare'. We were on vacation by the ocean. Gaston as a six year old took off with the dog...

THank you Victor your words mean a lot. Yes sometimes replacing a dog you love with another has a way of lessening the pain of a loss. I believe as you Victor. I mentioned that to my brother and he replied not for a while. Time is the best remedy for healing other than Gods involvement. Hope you are well my friend...

They are members. That is for sure Tom. My brother was with Jeter all night long into the afternoon. He passed around Noon. Lucy his sister was there and my brother told me she started whimpering when he died. How did she know? It was exactly at the time he passed. She then went over and laid her head on him. My brother let her lay there for a little while. I have heard it said Tom that our pets are sometimes better than some humans. They love us unconditionally, and are always there for us. Thank you for your kind words Tom. My brother Gus and his wife Elena will read your comment, I am sure he will appreciate your kind words my friend...

Michael, such pain in pet loss! Having lost 20 cats, I have been through the wringer. Also, took care of my daughters blind dog. Then another. I fall to pieces when they die. I wrote a long poem the day Sparky died. I understand and Know how they live on in memory. I watched all those cats take their final breath. Then pass on to Rainbow Bridge…I want to die! Warm hugs, you sensitive soul! Panagiota
