In the
Glory
of
Morning
A morning-glory at my window satisfies me more than the metaphysics of books -- Walt Whitman
Many of mankind's best souls are leaving us now,
climbing a trellis of morning glories
to their promised reward.
Soft blue blooms wake and open at dawn,
casting their sapphire eyes upward
to search the heavens.
Were morning glories the only witnesses,
greeting our Savior as He rose from the tomb
on that first Easter Sunday?
Were the tiny, fragrant troubadours
empowered by His Resurrection
to celebrate sunrise?
Fast-growing green stems sport abundant blooms,
hosts who pave a colorful path
that is closer to heaven each day.
Retiring early by afternoon,
only to revive once more
when rising sun gives to light to the world.
