For the Contest of Constance La France ~ A Rambling Poet ~
"I Fancy Another Sad Poem"

_________________________________________________________________________

My stepdad, stricken with a terrible disease, suffered for over a decade as his mind slowly unraveled. Bits and pieces of it vanished. He had to be removed from the house in which he'd helped Mom raise all of us kids. At the rest home, seeped in dementia and confused by a recent surgery whose aim he could not comprehend, he cried out helplessly, but seeing our mom, he took her hand and gently whispered, "You're the one I've been thinking of."

This IS a sad poem, but with a very endearing end. Who can ever know what dwells in the mind when it isn't what it once was, but they deserve to be surrounded with love and reminded of those pleasant memories from long ago. Very touching, friend. Congrats on your #1 placement today. Hugs ~ John

It is sad when someone gets dementia and it must have been hard on your mom and you the children. Life has many upsets. Well we finally got our car today and now the air bag warning is coming up- so called them and hope they call back in the morning. Couldn't get on the soup today and I was at the shop so had plenty of time for commenting-not sure what was wrong. love phyl

Truly a sad affliction, but the moment of clarity was stunning, Andrea. One of our Soup friends is watching her father succumb to dementia and I hope she sees this poem. It might help her get through the hard times to know there was this moment when love could still be expressed. FYI-the toad was in MY commode and the entire poem is true. Caused quite a ruckus among animal lovers who wanted to save it. Best wishes in the contest! Love, Carolyn

Oh wow, those moments of clarity indeed are so precious-- that instance must have been such a gem for your mom-- this is such a moving etheree, Andrea; I know of someone who suffers from dementia and it is so difficult for the family indeed--such a sad write but the way you ended it makes it so bittersweet-- btw I could be wrong (sorry if I am) I believe that is "stricken"-- I am sure Constance will love this very meaningful moment shared... hugs to you sweetie :D

Andrea, I commented but my comment disappeared..This is such a romantic poem with the sad touch of the Alzheimers...That is such a terrible disease..Now they have a med that helps slow the progression of the illness for awhile..Enjoyed reading this one..I am sure that it will be in the winners' circle..Sara

This brought tears to my eyes Andrea. Your ending was so touching. I see you found out how to post your poem so it will come out in the center. I am still not sure how to do it. Best of luck in the contest. You know I am a big fan of your etheree and this is a really exceptional one. Hugs, Connie
