Holmdel Park, NJ, is where I fell in love for the first time.  It still seems like a magical place to me.

The arboretum looks as it did then With silver maples dancing in the breeze Wildflowers bloom within the narrow glen Remember how we kissed beneath the trees? One special oak displays the heart you carved With our initials set within its wall We were so young and yet our souls seemed starved So passionate are teens when first they fall Today I came to view the art we left Surrounded by the blooms, the trees, the birds And though my heart seeks you, I am bereft Of promises defined by long lost words I miss that passion coursing through our veins Now you have left and loneliness remains June 10, 2020

You have sketch a lasting beauty which lives in our mind and heart always but sometimes these memories come out, when the poetry brush falls in the hands of great poet like you dear friend Carolyn. Beautiful lines..” Today I came to view the art we left Surrounded by the blooms, the trees, the birds And though my heart seeks you, I am bereft Of promises defined by long lost words” With best wishes always.....Ravindra

Such beautiful memories in what looks like a beautiful place, Carolyn. I was born about 100 miles from there in Mt. Holly. I love New Jersey but could never live through the winters. Thanks for sharing your bittersweet sonnet...a fave for me. Blessings, Rhonda xx

A beautiful write Carolyn, sorry it didn't place in my contest, I was looking for a passionate write, this was more a nature write, but it is beautiful writing!

Aw, this is so sweet, Carolyn!! Bittersweet, of course, now... You know, some New Jersey parks look eerily alike. There's one in Springfield, NJ that looks so much like this one. (My daughter was remarried in a synagogue across the street). Then there's another one in Elizabeth, NJ, on North Avenue, which is almost a carbon copy. Amazing! Thanks, Gershon

This is so wonderful, Carolyn. Equal parts nostalgia, romance, and longing. It reminds me of the summer heat of young love many years ago. Great sonnet flow, rhyme, and meter. This is a winner to me. Hugs ~ John

This is very romantic and touched by sadness of what could have been Carolyn. There is nothing quite as powerful as young love. Beautiful! I am in a rush to pick up my car. I will be back to read more. Blessings xxoo
