Do You Remember Me In Your Memories Alzheimer

My dad lay in bed, ready to go to sleep. I asked him "Dad, do you remember me?" " I was your daughter. Your only child. Just take your time Dad, think for a while." " Look at these pictures of you and me, do they spark your memory?" " These pictures that you see, is a birthday party you threw for me." She held him close in disbelief and asked over again. "Do you remember me?" " She said look closely, do you recall?" A puzzled look on Dad's face, said it all. He responded. " I'm, sorry honey, I wish I could. His sad response she understood. His memories just disappeared. Leaving her with heartfelt tears. Alzheimer's disease has found it's way. Much to a loving daughter's, great dismay. Her Dad doesn't know her anymore. Now she carries special memories of him and her. Alzheimer's Association is a wonderful Charity to make a donations to. Home office: 225 North Michigan Ave FL.17, Chicago Illinois 60601 May God bless those who contribute to this great cause, to find a cure. You never know if it may affect someone in your family or friends. Please share your own personal stories in the comments, if you have any. Thank you...

Dear Michael, ohhh the heart-wrenching experience of watching a loved one fade away due to Alzheimer's. The emotional depth in your words especially in the line: "His sad response she understood. His memories just disappeared." This verse encapsulates the sorrow and acceptance that accompany such a painful journey. Your ability to convey such deep emotions through your poetry is truly admirable. Autumn Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Dementia is a terrible disease, my mom had it, but she recognized her immediate family, it was another kind of sadness that gripped her. One day I will share her story on Poetry Soup. Blessings, Jennifer.

I know this pain well. My dad has alzhiemers. Two and a half years ago, I became his primary caregiver. He dips in and out of reality. Sometimes he'll introduce me as his wife then I correct him and he chuckles. It's excruciatingly painful. Dad was a scholar with doctorate in education. He was an ordained pastor. He's written poetry and published articles. When he's had enough sleep, he does well. I'm grateful for what he still remembers. Thank you for sharing this poem. May a cure be found.

So sorry to hear of your dad Eileen. Yes I hope a cure is found. Thank you for sharing your story of your Dad. I am glad he is able to remember what he can, I am sure that brings joy to your heart when he can. Such a smart man to be afflicted by this horrible disease just breaks your heart. Thank you again for sharing. So many daughters and son's are going through this painful relationship. God bless you and your dad Eileen. Hang in there and I hope and pray there is a cure soon...

So sorry Tom, for you and your wife, and all those affected by this awful disease, of Dementia. My wife's mom also had Dementia hers started in her 70's. Like Tom said below the Government spends our taxes on wars and worthless causes instead of research for a cure to end these debilitating disease's. Thank you Tom for sharing this heartfelt news. I pray and hope you and your wife and family can cope and transition to a peaceful closure in this sad situation. Again thank you for sharing my friend...

Heartbreaking Michael, we've all lost loved ones to that terrible disease. If every country spent money on research instead of spending billions on weapons of mass destruction I'm sure that they'd be nearer to finding a cure. Tom

Tom such a a great thought you have shared. You are so right my friend. We waste so much money when that money can be used in research to not only fund this disease but others like Dementia, Parkinson's, and so many others. This world would be so much better in solving these disease that affect so many lives, bringing pain and suffering to Loved one's. Like you said we have all lost loved one's to this terrible disease. So much appreciated your input Tom, it is always a beacon of light to read your comments my friend. God bless you...
