Poetry Should Be Felt Poetry Contest

Second Place

Coming of age is a rite amongst Cree people. Mother Earth’s spiritual relationship is among all living things.

a tender voice recites, muse’s lyrics flow non-believers have poisoned Earth Mother's waterways She unleashes winds blown hotter and dryer perennial white blossoms swoon midst zephyrs dangle from sterling chaste trees twisted maple bark echo braids sacred hair unscathed gold filters branches thousand-year rooted Algonquin memories elders and granddaughters amble amongst crackling twigs streams pristine align to augur a promising path within a bison pelt tepee awaits the knowledge keepers embrace fire and smoke dense and opaque evoking a bittersweet melancholy broadleaves tremble breathe and sway hymn chants of traditional wisdom expel severed is the braid as is the child from the woman her nascent efflorescence transition is significant as we are wedded and bound to nature’s perennial sentient let the path before us grow wider and brighter for future generations

Congratulations on your 2nd place win, Anaya. I was enthralled by this tale and the masterful weaving of the nature component as the timeline of the rite unfolded. We cannot ignore Man’s thoughtless actions and the consequences on our natural environment. Your closing line inspires hope and many of us will echo this wish for the future. Suzette

I am quite honored. Suzette it was what I had in mind, as the youth reads her lines during her ceremony, she encourages us to be stewards of Mother Earth. Thank you for challenging us with such amazing contests!

This was quite intense. Interesting pov presented. Non-believers can certainly include professed Christians (not all) the industrial barons of the earth. Congrats on your placement. I done felt it!

I have sent you soup mail, Anaya, with the feedback as I keep getting Error 500 on your page when tried to access It via my laptop. It has happened before (perhaps due to the many images on you pages - it slows it down to open them?) :)

Hey Linda Alice, I'm glad you did. We are both in the same frame of mind, "Strawberry Moon" yesterday, ha. You are right about that, so many overlook the significance and nature's part. Good to see you!

Anaya, I love the part about the non-believers. It sums up our current environmental situation completely. The description of the rite is breathtaking and emotional. It's a complete contrast we can learn from. Thanks.
