Joseph Leidig Poem
The evening shadows
move through the branches to the top.
All through the winters' night
the cold white crystals fall,
they seldom stop.
No rest on upper branch
or lower limb you see.
but gently fall
from limb to limb
to plant themselves on me.
And there they grow,
and others come to rest
on cap and boot
and upturned coat
till all in white i'm dressed.
And not a bird or beast
within the wood
could see or hear
so still there in the snow
beside the tree I stood.
But now it's time to go!
I'd watched old sol up in the sky
till winter's darkness
drowned his bright red face;
I'd stood and watched him die.
Now, walking from the wood,
with only moon's pale light to see.
The crisp chill sound
of winter's booted feet
speak mockingly to me.
For I must go!
Return to life's dull roll.
The dumb things of the wood
I leave behind
all pity me I know!

Joseph Leidig Poem
I HAVE AN ITCH. iT'S A BITCH OF AN ITCH. BUT THERE'S A GLITCH WITH MY ITCH. i'M NOT SUPPOSED TO SCRATCH THE ITCH.
WHY DOES GOD ALLOW AN ITCH THAT ITCHES LIKE A BITCH?
THE ITCH MAKES ME TWITCH,AND I LOOSE THE BATTLE OF THE ITCH. i SCRATCH IT LIKE A BITCH.THE FEELING IS RICH, I AM ENJOYING THE ITCH.
MAYBE THAT PLEASURE WAS GODS PURPOSE IN CREATING THE ITCH.

Joseph Leidig Poem
The shelter and comfort I gave so freely was gone with my destruction. The child once played alone and content in the comfort of my stairwell. The cat stalked the banister for a friendly monster to attack. The tempting odor from the kitchen, and by the fire, the pungency of the rain laundered dog steaming dry, all memories!
Hate for me was born at the deaths of my several masters. Their Mistresses not understanding that I sheltered also death. Failing to remember the many times his grim shadow was closely put aside as I allowed life also to enter or remain. They failed to realize I must shelter all! Blind to the cause as justice is to the defendant.
The shadows rise and fall with the passing of time, and now, all trace of me is gone. Yet the comfort I gave is still there. For those who knew me come to the spot where I stood and dream of the past. I keep it safe here, waiting for their return.
Again, in the remaining sod, I shelter them with the comfort of their memory of what I once was to each of them.

Joseph Leidig Poem
A loss so great
and it's too late
to tell her so.
now that she's gone
there is no way
to let her know
Death closed the door
and only death
can give the key.
There is no hope!
She cannot hear.
Oh! pity me.

Joseph Leidig Poem
Alone
The rustling wind whispers
memories fond
of the person I was
before I was me.
The dog barks!
I rush to see the subject of his attention,
and not seeing,
listen, for an answer
that never comes.
and I am lonely!

Joseph Leidig Poem
The lights go out
I speak your name.
Now love and passion
seem the same.
so hold me close
hold tightly to my heart,
that when it beats
you'll leave your mark.
A mark within,
that others may not see.
So when we are alone,
your memory and me
It will be enough !

Joseph Leidig Poem
In the dim light your arms reach out to me, head tilted to receive my kiss.
Our lips touch, and there is the soft warmth of summers thunder in my
chest. The dream is real! The impossible exists, yet it can't be true.
Your body lifts upward, and I know you are on your toes to reach
me. Excitement pounds in my head.. Our lips part, yet we remain in firm
embrace. I cannot speak, or breathe. Afraid, that in the next instant you'll
be gone, the dream over.
I hear the sounds of night. A distant car, a movement in another
room. I'm aware of your breathing. The sound of happiness in your voice
so close to my ear. I kiss the smoothness of your face, and your eyes close.
I seal them with a kiss and I am overwhelmed, my joy complete!

Joseph Leidig Poem
My ship threw me in the water
threw me roughly in the water
as though saying "do not follow
as I sink into the sea!"
Left me on the seas crests lurching
in the night it left me searching
for the hole within the darkness
that would take me from the sea
Then the sea itself evicted.
threw me out upon the seashore
threw me through the hole I'd searched for
through the night while in the sea.
Once upon the shore I stood there
listening vaguely to the thunder
to the thunder of the seashore
and it seemed to say to me.
Venture not into the water
Neptune's beasts lurk in the water
lurk there waiting for your footstep
as you step into the sea
many days now since my landing
hunger brought an understanding
dimmed the terror of the thunder
and I took food in from the sea.
No longer fearful of the pounding
I find the water warm and shining
friendly waves that make small ripples
as they swirl about my knees.
Waves that carry dainty fishes
past the sand and coral niches
bring to me the shells and fishes
that I take in from the sea.
Now the ship that found my seashore
takes me back across the water
a fond goodbye to my small island
and the father of the sea
Neptune, still the jealous father
still stands guard within the water
for his places that I trespassed
haven't left a sign of me.
He filled the places that I swam in
moved the sands that I did stand in
and the beach where rescue landed
shows no sign of them or me.
Neptune's liquid fingers cleansed it
grasped our markings on the seashore
pulled them with the jealous water
back into the foaming sea

Joseph Leidig Poem
We run in haste, one with the other
in reaching our goal of no-where.
As a driver in racing covers the same road
again and again
going no-where except to win.
So, oblivious of the jeers or cheers
of the spectating world.
This track we run together,
the prize we seek already won
before the race is run.

Joseph Leidig Poem
Shine not the sun
for the brightness of the day
helps drive the happiness
of my dream away
Stay please the dark,
and its' silent partner sleep
That brings my heart's desire
for my mind to keep.
With darkness black
no loneliness or despair.
I see her lovely face,
I dream that she could care.
The night now gone,
now brightly shines the sun.
Her lovely face no more,
now my dream is done.
So weep my heart!
Till darkness comes again,
and come the dreams to me
of what we might have been
