Premium Member Beautician Stops Combing
The beautician frowns in the mirror.
She stops combing.
I think she has found a tick.
I get them frequently. I live in the country.

Why would you have paint in your hair? She asks me.
I am a painter, I tell her.
She gives me a look I have not seen since my mother died.
I have to laugh....

Premium Member Mama's Treasure
kimo

my mama's beautiful, long, auburn hair
was piled up high on her head
undone, hung to her waist

tanka

mama's lovely hair
was quite untouched by scissors
daddy loved it long
I wonder if her headaches
came from those heavy tresses

a beautician wrapped
my mama's hair in a bun
for her funeral

Faye '09
Thou dancest amongst the
posies and poplars alike.
O how thou dost admire, so
sung the feathered choir.
Whispering breeze not of a
foolish tongue;
Though words wiser unto
inspire of.
Poesy of an internal beautician
and thy spirit which
soothes thereof love;
Caressing thy heart
beating e'ermore young.
O beloved "Faye"....

The Cat's Paws
Brendon earns his bread and butter
as an artist at Anna's -
Anna's Beauty Salon.
He places the smock across my shoulders
as if it were a feathered gown;
I feel resplendent already.
Removing the pencil from my messy bun,
he unfastens my hair with
hungry hands.
His fingers dance with intrigue like the
balloons bobbing on the mirror..

He is the cat and I am his cream....

Premium Member Winter Magic
Glimmers of glazed frosting levels, enticing blissful specials, scatters the blues of blue devils, encased sailing vessels. Rejuvenating windswept fresh, limb held chirping bird thresh, ever-changing flourishing mesh, awaken breaths gooseflesh. Spectacular melting winter, beautician scene tinter, the wood cord, no logs, just splinter, skier last day sprinter.

Premium Member Happy Birthday
I have been at this hair stylist’s station for twenty-six minutes.
Talking about my birthday
Her name is Genni
She is polite, acts interested in my ramblings
Adds the right comments
When I am leaving I look back at her station.
There is an enormous happy birthday banner
It is obviously her birthday too
I yell “Happy birthday!” and she waves.
Smart beautician.
Making it all about her client, me....

Premium Member Jody does hair
Jody does hair – she dyes it, styles it, washes it, makes it up.
She will chop it, slice it, dice it, down low it, mix bleach in a cup.
Jody has always wanted to do hair, and now she does it daily.
Her children know to wait for her, she is there with their dog Bailey.
Bailey lies in the back, snoring away as he dreams of chasing sheep.
Some of the customers do not know he is there, making barely a peep....

Premium Member Everyone Wanted Morganna For Their Updo
Morganna was the quintessential beautician for sure
every bride wanted her on their wedding day
she was booked in advance, her motives were pure
the trick is to make their updo a bit messy, a fly away

the other beauticians did not know what she meant
She showed them how to do wedding day hair
They did not work on brides, worked on Lee and Kent
happy to not be involved in bridal jittery feelings that flair...

Premium Member Cupcake Craving
Our granddaughter loves cupcakes.
Someday, she wants to run a cupcake business.
Someday, she wants to be a beautician.
Someday, she wants to specialize in makeup.
Someday, she wants to be a singer.
Someday, she wants to be a songwriter.
Someday, she wants to go to college.

I’m voting for number one
and number seven.
I love cupcakes.
If she goes to college,
her cupcake business might succeed.

You go, girl!...

Premium Member Acorn Hair Please
Acorn hair please the squirrel said as she scooted into the chair
Same color or shape or both? Asked the beautician named Mare.
Whatever you can do, but it has to be done exactly right.
Because at six o’clock I am eloping, this very night.

So, Mare did her best, and the squirrel was pleased in all ways.
You have a great night, she said. This is one of my best days!
She invited Mare to be her bridesmaid that evening too.
But alas, Mare and her family had something else to do....

Premium Member Mom Is Not Ready For That Yet
I cannot work on this child's hair, the new beautician says.
She has virgin hair! I have never worked on virgin hair!
The mother of the child laughs. Thinking she is kidding.
I am serious, she says. Let me have your other daughter.

The older beautician cuts and curls the young one's hair beautifully.
The original beautician dyes older sister's locks purple and pink.
That’s what I wanted! Whines the disappointed six-year-old.
Not yet, their mother says. I am not ready for that yet!...
