Hear the sound of Winter's retreat
trickling away beneath your feet.
And gush into a swollen creek,
where surging waters swiftly peak.
See shifting ice packs crack and break
as they shiver, quiver and quake.
And watch waves wash ashore once more
while wind and ice play tug-of-war.
Taste the sweetness of April-rain
dilute Winter's bittersweet reign.
And savor the flavors of Spring
subtly clinging to everything.
Feel hope hitched to a tepid breeze,
for Spring’s start has no guarantees.
And the tactile nature of Spring
makes that an enjoyable thing.
