When Jury Duty Calls

The day before Thanksgiving
Everybody takes it slow,
Except the ones preparing meals,
As many of us know.

So it’s the perfect day to serve
If Jury Duty calls.
I doubt if there’s a judge or lawyer
Strolling through the halls.

We would-be jurors sit for hours,
Staring at the clock,
Or read or do a puzzle
Since there’s no one in the dock.

My hope is that we’ll be dismissed,
Our civic duty done
And other folks will fill the seats
When trials will have begun.

Haha. The USA: A country of laws -- and guffaws.

Wow so you have been on a jury. Three times I was called but they made plea agreements so I lucked out. Next time if I get called, my doctor will write me a note. I pee a lot so I can use incontinence as an excuse. Haha

Congrats upon being selected to serve as a juror! Brings back memories! I was a court Bailiff here in Col Springs for 9 years after retiring from the AF and it was a pleasure working with juries. I retired from that job on 1 Jan 93 and the next week I received notice for jury duty! Sech is life! Happy Thanksgiving!

They don’t allow zombies to sit as jurors; So to all of you whom have never been called for duty: Chances are you’re a zombie and you don’t even know it …

I detest the very prospect of jury service, Ilene. Not that I don’t believe in justice, just that I’d be bored senseless listening to lie and counter-lie… well we are talking ‘lawyers’ here. Nonetheless, you, once again, depict your scenario in perfect rhyme… and that is my final judgement ;-)
