The Temple of the Butterfly
I am the void
I am the wrath
I am the undulating sun seraph
In the temple of the butterfly
The shadow is my alibi
~moths, in rooms full of angles
circle, languishing slow as death
caught in webs of cold breath
rage beneath the deep shade of insentient truth
~moths, numberless toil
wings beating back the night
sinew pulling muscle, flexing flight
fly into the brooding canon, luminous, hungry
~moths, consuming dark
that vision of ourselves, vacant grief
haunting voice, distant hymn
deep cadence held in solemn silence
~moths, numberless spiral
descend from smoke through slanting light
disturbing silence, spirits fall in waves
breaking upon the consciousness of eternal human sorrow
I am the dark
I am the dream
I am the madness in-between
In the temple of the butterfly
The shadow is my alibi
