Early morning and the gantry cranes at Webb Dock look like long necked dinosaurs lining up to drink from the river - and the sky is aglow as it might have been when tinged by the first hint of that asteroid slamming into Yucatan on the other side of the world 66 million years ago. This is 2025 and no asteroid threatens our fragile planet, yet more subtle things do - things that reside in the dark precincts of the human soul that pour out pollution and in silos and undersea, stoke embers that could at anytime break free and incinerate us all.

Paul, I'm with you here. The imagery of the photo makes a strong impression. That in this age and with all our scientific knowledge that we seem lacking the will to take care of and ensure the safety of our own planet seems astounding. There are many among us who are working for reasonable life and getting along with each other and nature. Thanks for sending this message.

Such a loud chorus of like minded souls all calling out and yet the power for change is in the hands of a few. Common sense and care run a poor second to monetary interests me thinks. Many thanks for your thoughtful comments Duke...you never know, just one more little spoonful may cause the dam to break. Take care

thought provoking piece Paul the cranes remind me of dinosaurs but also makes me think of the cover of Jeff Waynes war of the worlds album and the impending destruction of man kind as we are seeing so worryingly in the world. The greed of man also has so much to answer for . hugs jan xx

You're right, the gantry cranes also resemble the machines from war of the worlds...I'll have to explore another theme now. Good to hear from you Jan. Thankyou for sharing the morning sky and its rather sombre reflections. Valued. Take care,

Paul, a thought provoking poem, so well penned. Life can change in the blink of an eye. Pay no attention to the trolls on here who like to leave foolish comments.

Explosive imagery Paul, from an early morning peaceful snap shot of modern day mechanical dinosaurs, to the ever present threat of nuclear annihilation, reminiscent of that extinction asteroid, so much expressed in two powerful stanzas, cheers David

Love your comments David...thankyou. Such subject matter in a poem always runs the risk of overstatement...tried to ripple this one out until the last line and use of the word incinerate. Value your comments, Paul

It's scary how we're mere minutes away from the end at any one time just so individuals can have more power and money. It feels more so now than ever but looking back that fear seems to be ever present but with different angles... It's hard to believe poets and politicians are the same type of animal at all. Love the picture and getting taken along for the view and the pondering :)

Worrying....so many puffed up egos with fat fingers hovering over a button. Writing poetry probably is a finger in their eye, demonstrates that something other than power, greed, wealth is treasured. Good to have you share the view with me, listen to your words. Take care my friend.

The skies are such a beautiful shade of gold, Paul and the cranes do resemble dinosaurs. You're correct about the toxins that have been ruining earth's atmosphere for years. Your descriptive verses are always so interesting, and your perspective of life is always spot on. Jurassic World Rebirth will be out in July!

Not for one moment did it ever occur to me that it was sinister. I rather enjoyed the comparison of the dawning with the thought of dinosaurs. It's a nod to your imagination, Paul. I enjoyed the sit and the company. ;-)

I know, the sky was spectacular that morning, and what did I do...give it sinister interpretation but hey, ended up with a reasonable poem. Thanks dear Lin for sitting down with me and taking it in...love your company.

Nice warning Paul. However, mankind faces a much greater threat, the battle of Armageddon with God's warrior king Jesus Christ in the forefront. Coming to a planet near you

Hi Tom, Very much appreciate and value comments...however in this case your commentary has tipped into preach mode. I'm afraid that's enough. Please refrain from continuing. If you want to believe in a god that kills off the opposition and/or cooks them alive for eternity, that's your business...I would have thought we call such types Dictators. Wishing you the best....

Sorry Paul, but the Prince of Peace must first wear the warrior's hat to eliminate evil from the earth. Only then can there be peace and restoration- Psalm 37:10,11

Hi Tom We have mananaged to kill over 200 million people by wars over the last 100 years...I'd rather hope to see a peacemaker than another warrior I'm afraid, someone who can heal without having the need to kill. Cheers
