The Devil Is Beating His Wife
The Devil Is Beating His Wife
By Elton Camp
It’s a southern saying I’ve heard all my life
Rain with sunshine, Devil’s beating his wife
This fits when two things don’t go together
Sunshine and rainfall are different weather
Thus, this adage may appropriately be said
To suggest that the evil Devil may be wed
For a sound marriage is a most blessed state
Anything fine the Devil is supposed to hate
That anything wicked old Satan does abhor
Accounts for this bit of southern folklore
If it’s in the frigid north you’re reclining
Think of it if it rains and the sun’s shining
