Summertime Poetry Contest
Sponsored by Gina McIntosh ~ July 14, 2023
One of those humid, hard-to-breathe summers
when flowers bloom across meadows and fields.
Fireflies glow at night to songs of hummers,
cicada; whose loud army never yields
Days at the beach, building castles of sand
Fishing trips to catch and cook our own feast
Time spent in the sun until we were tanned
Watching the golden orb rise in the East
Swinging on the porch, strong arms around me
Grateful for my blessings and wafts of breeze
Quite content with life, and sipping sweet tea
watching limbs sway in weeping willow trees
Whispered words spoken beneath starlit skies
Love like ours brings tears of joy to my eyes
