Starstruck Gazing at the stars in the nighttime sky A shooting star reflects an awestruck sigh. The Northern lights make their appearance nigh With vivid colored ribbons soaring high, They penetrate my soul and mystify. A cosmic gift to almost deify, The wind joins in to sing a lullaby, I feel conjoined to let my spirit fly. 1-8-20 First Time Here - Any Monorhyme Poetry Contest ~First Place~ Sponsored by: William Kekaula ~Poem of the day January 10, 2020~

This is always harder to write than anyone thinks until they try. I have tried this but was not aware it had it’s own genre. Connie you did such a lovely job of putting us right next to you to look up and watch that sky. I could see it. Wish you a Happy New Year at the same time as good blessings and outcomes for this contest! Joy Only!

You are very right Edlynn. Monorhymes are difficult to write as they tend to sound forced. I rarely write them but wanted to enter this contest. I was lucky enough to have seen the northern lights from the cockpit in-flight long ago. It was an unforgettable sight. Thank you for your wonderful comment. xxoo

Connie, you are a lover of the night sky, yes? It shows in this tribute to the celestial marvels that dazzle us and fill us with wonder. Your rhymes are so perfectly selected and unforced. I've never experienced the Northern lights, but now I feel as though I have! Thank you for lifting my spirits with words that lift my eyes upward. Blessings, friend ~ John

I want to thank you for this wonderful comment John. Yes I do love the night sky, and we are blessed here in Hawaii to have the tradewinds and clean air so stargazing is fantastic. I did see the northern lights once long ago from the cockpit in-flight. They were unforgettable. Thank you again for such a lovely comment. xxoo

What a pretty poem, "The wind joins in to sing a lullaby." It often does that when I take my little dog out under the moon and stars. Congratulations!

Your colored ribbons are still flying, only now they're being read by many others. Nice to see it here! It's written like a flowing stream; not typed in caps that seem to scream.

Thank you very much Lin. There are still some who don't know typing in all caps is looked upon as shouting. I also believe that sometimes those who can't see well will type in caps. New year blessings my friend. ; ) xxoo
