Bit too rushed and distracted to pull this one together but interesting to think about. A few early morning edits added

the emptying of a mind, into the ether all that was contained suddenly skywards always to be firmly rejected by gravity we have to live with the fallout well someone does truth ruins the illusion of necessity spittle ruins the illusion of beauty timelines can't run two ways just because we now know better you can't rewrite history you can only bury the dead and move on there's still beauty still there, in the bright light before nothing – lingering on the retina to make sense of forevermore, we need insanity and everything is clear in the end once we've passed the point of no return and learn no more nothing is new evidenced by what's etched in stone and in the inner workings of every dome rest the lives of those that built it now silently watching on in every direction lay the fallen leaving space the glorious mourners preach eventually there is no fight left only moistened air descending kissing your cheek with a promise of change coffee cup stains create crowns from faraway hideouts the planners never losing a drop or burning their tongue in the perfect world they build everyone else gives their all to fulfil whatever dream they needed to be sold - those details don't matter bridges shatter between downcast eyes everything wriggles finds its way once again to a finish line starting again a fresh batch, inevitable for glory the light doesn't shine long enough to worry those at the top about mortality pursuit of legacy ensures they are never finished

Di11y, this has so many different levels of interpretation. I'm reminded as I read how short our lives really are. You really put a lot into a poem like this, and it's a pleasure to experience the various thoughts you present. Just a brief trip into something out of the ordinary that makes me smile. Thanks!!

I enjoyed the journey of this one. I first found the painting and felt compelled to explore it. Then read a few articles and analysis. Then let the emotion of the painting dictate what I wrote. Then I reviewed what forms of words i wrote between the subconscious act of just writing and conscious act of editing - the whole experience of Dali then just fascinates! He was incredibly deep into every element of this painting. Definitely not one of his 'for the money' pieces. Glad you enjoyed it

One of your best DD...had me hooked from the first stanza. An amazing performance, a bit like taking a mind expanding pill where meaning becomes re-arranged into new associations. Original and full of really great lines. The muse smiled upon you....you have made Ekphrasis a trademark skill of yours. Love it.

Thank you Paul, your visits are always a treat. The abstract and surreal are eye opening in their ability to convey layers of reality so it would have been rude to not get a bit psychedelic with the poem. Poetry is mystifying on so many levels but the choices we make with word selection and word order to transmit something that could simultaneously be the best and worse thing we've ever wrote is fascinating in itself. So pleased you enjoyed it :) it was exciting to pull together x

Well if anyone can do a Dali masterpiece justice it’s you Dilly, A breathtakingly brilliant Ekphrasis even by your own high standards, duality is abundant, the shockwave disintegrating, the halo forming, light coming back in, but not in real time, everything is happening simultaneously, just like it does inside a surreal experience, (and everything is clear in the end once we've passed the point of no return and learn no more) the power of those words can take a person to another realm, I can just imagine Richard Burton reciting them at the end of an Epic movie, definitely a resounding Fave for me, cheers David

And just like that, a full years worth of dopamine was released instantaneously :) you (if anyone) would have the deeper knowledge I was lacking here, so this high praise has me skyhigh in the feel good stakes. Nearly everything I said had about three layers of meaning and I was sending myself dizzy with what I could or couldn't draw into a usable poem. I wasn't sure it made sense without an essay per line but I'm thrilled I took a chance and shared it :) the fave made my day. Thank you David, your words sharpen my abstract poems and give them form.

Raphael's paintings have vivid color, yet this one is void of color. It's as if the ceiling is worn as a crown, perhaps by Mary as if her mind was emptying from that dome's opening. There's no harmony to be found and no amount of planning to result in a perfect world. A Fool's Paradise is nonexistent. Your "first thought, best thought" poetry, is a writing style that emphasizes the importance of capturing one's initial thoughts and feelings on paper. It's a unique gift that you excel at writing.

It's just amazing once you start to explore it! There's a halo but that links to Hiroshima. The light entering matches the Pantheon but has echoes of enlightenment or redemption etc. Everything is disintegrating in beauty, making 'mind blowing' too ridiculous an expression in this context. It makes me want to be a better read person for sure! I love initial thoughts, not planned to be clever or dazzling but just observations. It's a risky way to write, particularly if I'm very absorbed as I then can't tell if the context I'm leaving out prevents any reader getting in. I really need a few more collaborations to upskill in that weakness. Thank you for your kind encouragement :)

Thank you so much Laura, having explored the painting in depth I was afraid this felt like nonsensical scribbles but was so in awe of the painting I posted rather than leave forever in drafts in case I didn't have the guts to go back :) The implications within the painting are massive and easy to get lost within! I had to ditch several motifs I'd spotted due to lack of ability to progress the thought (like Italy's boot shape is on there and I wanted to draw in fascist regime but had nothing). I appreciate your visit and high praise, thank you :)

How wise is this poem dear dd, As always yours words show that you have a deep understanding of everything and anything, and sometimes we all do think these things youv delivered here but your lines are powerful and once again i must advise you to frame them, such as “ to make sense of forevermore, we need insanity” also “ bridges shatter between downcast eyes everything wriggles finds its way once again to a finish line starting again a fresh batch, inevitable for glory” i can resonate with those lines and i must say the depth of what youv conveyed here truly is soul hitting! The light always flickers and fades! I might get inspired to write a poem , just reading this! Pleasure visiting you! Sending you light always

Maybe I'll get into the t shirt business one day with my quotes :) the wriggles one is a few layers though and might not pass as appropriate haha. I was actually acutely aware in this one how little I know about history, science, iconography, neuroscience etc - Dali was fanatical in the detail and everything I could see in this painting was blowing my mind! Only essay writing might do it justice, so I tried to leave space in the poem as there is in abstract paintings for personal thoughts. I get a bit shy as occasionally people show up and criticise though. I enjoyed exploring this one and appreciate your supportive words :)
