Purple Reign

There is no plum-colored ermine trimmed cloak to be worn, and no one's pen is a royal scepter which gems will adorn. Poets are just ordinary people whose creations are born from their creative thoughts when hearts are joyful or torn. There is no regal king to obey when he makes a demand, nor an army to do his bidding when he barks out a command. No captains are needed to shout orders. We're all a deckhand. Court jesters at midnight hour, dipping quills in an inkstand. So, whether your name is Don Juan, Petunia Pig, or Lil Wayne, none of us should be proclaiming we're flying the airplane If it's a throne any of you seek, your attempted coup is in vain. I only speak for myself when I advocate for "No Purple Reign."

Beautifully said Lin….we are all equal in the poetry arena! No leaders nobody in control….free to write what our hearts desire (except swearing which sometimes is a real bugger!!!! Ha) Debx

Love the playfulness and innovative rhymes! I especially like "we're all a deckhand!" I am signed with a music company and our mantra, now matter how much success we achieve, is "everyone carries their own suitcase!" Many thanks for your great remarks, Sam. Playing on words is always such fun, and I had lots of fun creating these lines. None of us should regard ourselves above another, though some consider themselves to be 'TBP.' The source of all of our gifts, frowns on such people. It's better to remain humble and be rewarded with comments such as yours. LOL at your meeting at the carousel. I'll be there.

I do, Jay, and when I'm disgruntled or whatever, but I always think my best writing comes from some tragic event in my life. I think most poets put pen to paper when they feel emotional pain and suffering. Thank you, Jay for the thoughtful comments and the fave.

Well, I’m singing along here that’s for sure! Imagine a choir of poets! Dear Lin, this is an amazing monorhyme. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I think you can also say that about poetry. I admire anyone that can pick up a pen, expose their thoughts, souls, for all to see. Christina, you have given me a wonderful gift with the accolades you so graciously offer. Before I posted my first poem here, 8 years ago, I hesitated, wondering what others would think of my poetry. I've learned it doesn't matter what others think, it's what we think of our verses that matters. If we're to round up poets for a choir, you're welcome to join us. lol Thank you for liking my poetry. WoW Lin, This is a fine well well-written write about poets. I write simple poems from the heart. When I come across poets like you, I question why I call myself a poet.
