Matilda by Roald Dahl explores how to deal with an abusive situation. When faced with an escaped rhinoceros from the local zoo, one can do nothing, run away, get help, or fight. Has the property desctruction, maiming, and death during this fight solved the issue, or rather has it cut life short for many? Why can't one side choose to walk away? My proposal suggests the Israelis do just that. Is it thinkable to leave the holy land? Perhaps it is if packing it up and taking some of it along--at least the parts sacred to the religion.

If Jews would think outside the box To Arabs they’d sell Israel’s rocks The deal would work well Islam’s anger to quell Since extremists does it outfox

Not just the Jews feel the Holy Land belongs to them, Palestinians also know that it is their Holy Land as well. Fundamentalists in any religion, even the evangelists sometimes think like Islam. Complicated world. We know the solution, it's always been there as well. Israelis, Palestinians, Arabs are all Semites, its Semites waring with Semites!

Anaya, It does indeed belong to many religions. Therefore, whoever is in control of it should be willing to operate the place as a tourist attraction. It's a good way to make a lot of money and live well if there's peace.

But there is a book which tells them that the land is promised to them.. as there are other books which say certain things also... so, there lies the issue.. I guess, there are other factors like imperialism and political corruption...

SO, yes the "promised land." I believe that wealth redistribution can solve almost anything for most of the people there. I often ask myself, how deep down does a holy land go? They're welcome to dig down as far as they need to and take it with them. In other words, is it the dirt that's holy or the latitude/longitude? It's all so foolish really and not worth dying for when there's a perfectly safe solution. Just my strange take on all this to think that dying is preferable to a good move.

Extremists in any religion, scare me and ever since the horrible war did begin, i see so many extremists on two sides and so violent too in how they express , and its just scary and terrifying! I hope it all gets settled before it turns into even more chaos and more children get killed. Im not one to talk about it in public but i do care and pray for peace for all. Sending you light always dear duke. Your peace proposals i wish some politicians would see and support

IE, you are very kind and a good citizen of this earth! Extremism, as we see, begets evil. Most of the people I talk to have rationalized the situation. They have excuses for why one side or the other can do this or that, and they really believe that their excuses forgive the criminal behavior.

Here we have another excellent limerick that delves into an explosive proposal for settling the Holy Land conflict: the sale of Israeli pebbles to Arabs to console radicals and, maybe, reach a peaceful resolution. You have a way with words to explain complicated ideas thoroughly. You tackle a delicate and weighty subject by using rhyme and comedy. Words like "rocks," "deal," "extremists," and "think outside the box" highlight how plausible the suggestion appears.

Thanks SP. The set of five limericks was written over a decade ago. Not much progress has occurred in that time. A lot of people do not want to compromise in an appropriate way. Sad really!

I wish for a mutually agreeable solution. Two states side by side, perhaps.

Vijay, yes that would be my preference too. However, in view of the brutality exhibited on October 7, 2023 and after, I don't see how they can have peace without physical separation. In Romeo and Juliet the Capulet and Montague families end their feud because they see the tragedy and understand the loss. Here, the controlling influence within each side revels and celebrates the brutality. Also settlement becomes difficult as we arm Israel as our military surrogate in the region and others arm/support the Palestinians.
