My One True Love
Have I ever told you that I love you still,
though you are now a name engraved in stone;
our love has no bounds and is everlasting,
you will always be my one true love.
I assumed we would grow old together,
but your destiny was written in the book of life;
and what is written can never be changed,
so, you had to leave me one frozen winter day.
Years have passed but the dagger of grief remains,
I come with red roses to your grave;
not often as you are buried in another city.
as an only child, it was your mom and dad's wish.
No matter, you are with me each day and night,
but I must get on with my life, it is time;
so I have come to tell you that one day soon,
another will claim my heart and soul and mind.
Though, you my darling will always and forever,
be my one true love, never to be repeated;
never to be replaced by another love,
and when my life ends- meet me at heaven's gate.
