Labour Pains
As we breathed together she and I,
in through nose, out through mouth,
her partner stood behind.
Heel of his hand on base of her spine.
With each deep intake he pressed harder,
in a circular motion.
The pressure eased her ferocious pain
as we breathed again, she and I.
Flesh of my flesh, blood of my blood.
Coursing through us to him,
the baby within my child.
