Dark and vile truths are known to hide
in secret places that don't confide
their nature to the light of day.
Bodies to skeletons decay
in a closet or a deep well -
an unknown place, a hidden hell.
What is more shocking to me -
the ugliness for all to see,
as folks stroll by without a care,
as if there were nothing there,
when darkness hides in plain sight
in the shadow of the sunlight.
The averted eyes and numbed brains,
as decency no more remains,
as genocides among our species,
without alarm, as he sees, she sees -
For eons man has endured this plight
in the shadow of the sunlight.
