This verse, like many of my others, just plays on the words of an idiom or saying, in this case "take my ball (the poem) and go home." Other verses where I do that are "driving the meaning of something (the poem) home," "not being able to see the (her) forest for the trees," "being wishy washy," "buttoning your lip," "dilly dallying," etc. Smiley

"If you won't play nice, I'm taking my poem home." "Oh, poor baby! Look! He can' take it, Jerome." "Don't! I swear! If you smear it with that fizzy foam, I'm taking my poem home." "So, take it home," sass Billy and Jerome. We don't give a rat's ass about your stupid little poem!"

I can relate Marinus as I've been bullied and mocked about my poopy style since my early days as a total novice writer on soup in fact one guy was so nasty he challenged me to a poetic duel as my humourous poems were more popular than his expertly crafted poems. anyway 11 years on I am still here and will never give in to the trolls.
