I'D Rather Be In Colorado

I've ventured far from Indiana, the home soil of my birth, To many exotic and exciting places all about this earth. I've seen majestic Mount Fuji from the Kanto Plain of Tokyo. But I'd rather marvel at Pikes Peak right here in Colorado! I've traveled the rugged Khyber Pass in ancient Pakistan, And saw sumo wrestling and cherry blossoms in Japan. The alabaster city of Casablanca I've visited in Morocco, But I'd rather tour old ghost towns right here in Colorado! Magnificent Mount Vesuvius I've seen across Naples Bay. In Holland I've seen windmills and tulips in vast display. I've seen the swallows returning to San Juan Capistrano. 'Tis more thrilling to see eagles soar the pristine skies of Colorado! In Bermuda I've lolled upon the beaches of pink sand, And have viewed the towering Alps of Switzerland. Mayan ruins I've scampered over in Old Mexico, But I'd rather explore the ruins of Mesa Verde in Colorado! I've climbed the Tower of Pisa rewarded with a view divine, And visited the quaint Principality of Liechtenstein. Some folks strive for a lifetime seeking their El Dorado. I've found mine right here in Colorful Colorado! Robert L. Hinshaw, CMSgt, USAF, Retired © All Rights Reserved Placed No. 4 Tracie's " Where in the World..." Contest - Dec 2011

G'day Robert... this is a great poem Robert about home is where the heart is. When younger, I couldn't understand why aborigines felt so close to their land. After leaving my home town for twenty years I knew exactly how they felt - thank you Robert - Lindsay

Bob, you have been practically all over the world with the US Air Force. Put this to music, and it might rival "Rocky Mountain High" by the late John Denver. Great write.

Sounds like a beautiful landscape where your eyes get to see every day. Very good write with amazing images. As for football, the most over looked thing in Denver and the whole Tebow phenom is there great Defense , maybe not the orange crush of yesterday but strong and stingy. As for my boys in Blue, it would be nice to win a game without it coming down to the last seconds lol. Happy holidays to you and all around you. Michael

Nice words Bob and good luck in the contest ....you Americans dont know how lucky you really are....I live in Russia, and I know that there is practically no on e here who wouldn't give a right arm for a green card, even to live in Akron, Ohio or East Lansing, Mich.....much less the beautiful mountains of Colorado......good luck Bob

Excellent write, Bob. Kind of reminds me of the "grass is greener" proverb. We can search and travel all our lives, but nothing is more beautiful than our own home towns. I envy you living in Colorado Springs as I hear it is one of our nation's most extraordinary cities. To the top you will rise in this contest. Love and blessings, Carolyn
