Free Reins
Free Reins
For plains
you the reins are but the
deployed free wherever impatient
your iron shoes lead, and your
fiery spirit roams over fields
and forest paths and resounds
undaunted down tortuous
passes while over my heart
your winged dreams preside;
and when rough and
steep the hills, your
mind of steel eases us
through to the valley
below where your
every stride racing
the wind transports
us far beyond land
and stream
and sky.
For Lulu and Lisa, the most passionate horse lovers I know.
