Family Tree
Divided by decades
our feet traveled worlds apart
but our eyes saw the same sky
The same sun touched your
shoulder, while stars captured your
thoughts with curiosity
On nights of full moon
did you wonder who I'd be
or wonder if I'd care
enough to think beyond myself?
My mere existence
is because you came before,
on this shelf beneath the stars
The mighty oak grew
limbs of faith, hardship, and loss
I give thanks to you
and hope to honor such strength
with leaves of iron and gold
