Defined By Time
Memories mark moments of time, passing like a carousel
A bitter day in January Challenger exploded
Hopes for the future of our space program quickly eroded
Recalling the fate of the first teacher in space, on sadness dwell
On a November day in Dallas, nineteen sixty-three
Camelot dreams collided with bullets, a president died
Who’ll forget where they were when they heard the news and sadly cried
Benchmarks, dates circled on calendars, time passes as we grieve
Two thousand and one an attack befell New York’s twin towers
Were you one of many who watched the second tower fall?
Have you wished to travel back in time and these events forestall?
Cycles of life and death recorded, buds that bloom black flowers
Such are the transcripts documented in every human heart
Moments in time that change the course of history as we know it
Reminders of tragic events and acts that mankind commits
In the cyclical sense, they’re but slivers of a vast pie chart
