Dear God, Please Help Mommy
The little girl got on her knees and started praying
Said “dear Lord, please help mommy if you will
She’s putting needles in her arm once more I’m afraid
And she’s looking tired and I know she’s feeling ill
She used to take us to church when I was younger
But since my older brother past away, we never go
And I know you hear her cursing you, but please forgive her
Cause since Buddy left it seems drugs are now her ammo
Please don’t let her pass over to the other side
Cause then I’ll become a child of the ward
And although mommy treats me mean sometimes
I can still remember when I was adored
Mommy ain’t that bad God, she’s just confused
Cause no one can tell her why my brother died
But she at least has me if she’ll come to her senses
And again we can walk together side by side
I swept the floor for mommy just this morning
But she didn’t notice, but God really I don’t mind
Please, if you’re not too busy with bigger problems
Could you comfort her inside her mixed up mind
It hurts when my classmates talk about their home life
With their mommy and daddy tucking them into bed
I know you know that daddy left a few years ago
Another woman is what my mommy said
I know you have other things that need your attention
But thanks for lending me your kind ear
And thank you from the bottom of my heart
For seeing me through another rough year
I’m signing off and hope I wasn’t much trouble
I want to thank you for another sunny day
And thank you for taking time to comfort me once more
Reckon now I’ll go outside and pretend to play
“Amen.”
