An Extra Special Christmas Stocking Day

One hung stocking overflows with a child’s treasury of brightly colored gumdrops and hard, sweet-filled candies. Sugar cookies peek out from the top of my treat-filled sock: angels, stars, wreathes and snowmen painted with frosting! Catching my attention is a movement from a stocking beneath the tree, and I hear a wonderful sound. A whiskered face emerges with a tiny meow and staring - wide-eyed - right at me . . . . The best gift ever! By Andrea Dietrich Written November 6, 2011 For Russell Sivey's Christmas Stockings Tribute Poetry Contest

I just wanted to read this one again - I'm feeling so festive right now. Pity there wasn't really a kitten in the stocking - such a cute idea : )

Aw, I would have been so happy to see a kitten emerging from my stocking. All we got were fruit, nuts and candy. Candy was dandy. Could have lived without the oranges and apples. Fun poem, Andrea. Best wishes in the contest. Love, Carolyn

Ok, I am silly, for a minute there I thought that a mouse would be saying peek-a-boo O_o, raiding that stocking--ooh wait, maybe I can use that for My poem! haha you just gave me an idea...but I sure would choose the cat anytime, that's so cute! Nicest surprise ever!! Stockings weren't popular here since we don't have chimneys...but these days, it's catching on methinks,,, hugs to you!
