Advice For New Poets
Write that poem, don’t be shy
Be courageous; give it a try
If it rhymes, make sure it shines
Be original in your lines
New ways to say what’s been written
Then your readers will surely be smitten
Avoid the humdrum; make it dashing
Stress the verses with lightning flashing
If words are musty and verbiage stale
Most of your readers you will fail to nail
If lines are exciting, gutsy, and strong
How can your poems ever be wrong?
What you write matters but little
As long as you say it with sensitive zest
Blaze into their living thoughts
Your worthy poem will do the rest
