Yes, I think I'm definitely getting it - and the shuttered window adds to the sense of desolation

Andie, the one above which you label the modern way is more accurate in representing traditional Japanese haiku, and I don't just mean 5/7/5 the mistakes, glaring mistakes, which are being made here by poets make the addition of a few more syllables the least of the problem. What folks are writing is simply whatever they want and putting it into a 5/7/5 pattern and calling it haiku because of the syllable count. If I call a cat a dog it doesn't make it one.

Yes, this is haiku. REmember when I first met you and you were so green about haiku? I know many times I do not do them the modern way but it's because many judges dom't care about the new modern rules. I think it's fun to do the old fashioned way sometimes as well. soupmail about your contest.

Great job Debbie! I really like this Haiku! I love the imagery that your Haiku paints. Especially the "in a spent garden" line...perfect for where you were taking the poem to! I tried another Haiku, the most recent one, and I was hoping it was close to where I was supposed to be in writing it!! Check it out if you like!! Awesome work on this poem!!
