Flying Free

Flying Free
                                  by Shirley Rebstock 4/21/2015

On the day a loved one dies
Your body trembles and your whole soul cries

Look towards heaven and you will see
A graceful bird flying free

Above the clouds and sky so blue
Nothing on earth left to do

Higher and higher above the rain
No more hurting, no more pain

Gliding on the currents of the wind above
Carrying in the heart friends and families love

Beautiful earth below, beautiful sea
A life, a memory so precious that will forever be

Flying to heaven the Lord to meet
With those loved gone before to greet

As the days go by and your heart breaks and bleeds
Remember your loved ones laughter to heal that need

Look toward heaven and you will see
A graceful bird flying free

The Sun Will Rise Again

Have you ever loved and been disillusioned
Causing you to come to the conclusion
Love is like the sun at the end of the day
It slowly slips over the horizon and fades away

Through the night tears fall from your eyes
Tossing, turning, memories of good times and lies
The dark moon glimmering through the window
Flooding your heart with sadness of love can't rekindle

Just as the sun slips over the horizon and fades away
It returns with brilliant bright colors the very next day
A ray of sunlight drying each tear
Trying to heal your heart and take away your fear

Fear of never another love and best friend
When will this heartache ever end
Just as the sun fades over the horizon each day
Over the hills and valleys in the morning it always finds it's way

The Only Way Life Makes Sense

The Only Way Life Makes Sense

Life only makes sense if we can relate it to values which last
Think of people who have meant something to you from the past

Parents, siblings, friends, teachers
 Jesus,marriage partners and preachers

All their influence on us is vast
Remove one person, we would be different
Maybe less fortunate if asked

Seeking fame and fortune as goals you most cherish
Many wealthy and famous sought this
Then through suicide or overdose perish

God's love for us through Jesus is what makes life make sense
Being kind and loving to others even at our own expense

Life makes sense if someone might think of us one day
Grateful in their life we passed their way

Sharing relationships, love, blessings leave lasting impressions
To both the giver and receiver more valuable than any possessions

The War In My Mind

The war is over
The war continues in my mind
Seeing in my mind's eye my first kill

"He's mine, I saw him first," I told the other soldiers
The boom of my rifle echoing in my ears
My eyes watching the video in my head
He fell head first, legs kicking in the air
Then stillness

The stench of vomit filling my nostrils
Sick to my stomach
Whom am I to take another's life
Am I a good man or a bad man
A question of many a soldier

Hell became the norm after many more kills
War is hell
If only I
Maybe if
The war continues in my mind

How To Know You Are In Your Golden Years

Do you ever say
Hey Doc, would you prescribe, wink, wink, that little blue pill
I am willing to risk a heart attack to get back that old thrill

                                            Do you ever say
I put in my contacts, my reflection to see
Take one look in the mirror
What in the hell happened to me

                                            Do you ever say
I will put on my make up so my skin will have a glow
But will have to get home in a few hours or my make up
Will sink into my skin and my wrinkles will show

                                             Do you ever say
All the gray hairs and wrinkles are a small expense to pay
For all the wisdom I have gained as the years tic toc away

                                               OR did you say
To heck with that, who is the best plastic surgeon you know
Hurry the directions to his office
Maybe there is hope some old beauty the doc can bestow

                                                 Do you ever say
My get up and go got up and went
I barely did anything and my energy is spent

                                                 Do you ever say
Have to pee all night and will all these aches and pains ever part
Or Hey that was not me, that was you, who let out that fart

                                               Do you ever say
Who was that movie star whose name begins with F
                                         What, what cannot hear you
What, I yelled at you three times already
                                              You must be deaf

                                               Or do you say
Oh what a beautiful day, look at the birds
Bring me my rocker, let me sit down
I am grateful for all the days I smiled
Even the days that brought a frown

A Warning To All My Facebook Friends

This is a warning to all my facebook friends
Double check your posts before you press send
You see I did not do this & a friend I did offend

My post was meant to say, “ you are looking Good”
Instead it said ,”you are looking Old”
Now my friend has blocked me thinking I was mean and cold

So next time, don't be like me and press send
Without double checking if auto correct changed your words
Now you have offended and have to make amends

Memorial Day Soldier

Who is this soldier we memorialize
Who fought in wars then he dies
Even though he had to be scared
For into the face of death he stared

A courageous soldier who served his country true
Willing to put his life on the line for you
A warrior who went through strife
Physically and mentally so you could have life

The men and women who for our country fought
A Memorial Day to honor them we ought
Please don't forget the purpose of this day
On the last Monday of May

Two Small Fish and Five Barley Loaves

Five thousand people gathered at the Sea of Galilee
Following Jesus, miracles hoping to see
Jesus asked His disciples"Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?"
although He already knew how to accomplish this feat

One of His Disciples, Andrew, saw a young lad
Five barley loaves and 2 small fish is all he had
But how can so little feed so many
Jesus took the loaves and gave thanks and then there was plenty

After seeing this sign, the men knew the Prophet
This Jesus, who God sent into the world they had met
He took the fish and bread the little the boy had and made it grow
To feed the five thousand, the Bible tells us so

When you think you have little to offer,no talent or skill
Remember the little boy who offered his meager meal
Jesus gave thanks for the loaves did He not
In this story, Jesus shows He can use our little and bless a lot

My Name Is Roland Do You Want To Go Bowling

My Name Is Roland, Do You Want To Go Bowling
chosen to relate to Richard Lamoureaux's Poem
              Best Pickup Line
                                  Best Pick Up Line

You are so beautiful forgive me for staring
It might woo me if I thought he was sincerely caring
However, my first thought, he has used this line before
Although, flattered, I would head for the door

Hi Shirley, my name is Roland,
do you want to go bowling
Best pickup line I ever had
outside the washeteria by an Italian lad

Popping a willy, his bike on one wheel
I couldn't help but laugh, he is too funny I feel
So who told you my name
The clerk at the drugstore was to blame
Well not today, I don't think so
Maybe another day, I will let you know

Then one day I was walking home
He was sitting in his truck with silver chrome
Suddenly, he jumped in front of me offering me a ride
I loved his sense of humor, I have to confide

Only three blocks to my home
In his fancy truck with chrome
He grabbed and kissed me and I could see how this was gonna go
I laughed and pushed him away and said, “ I don't believe so.”

So no Roland, no bowling, just my favorite pickup line
A smile and laugh I can't hold back at this funny memory of mine
