Your Departure
There are times when I see the radiance of the sun
And I’m reminded of you when it dips
Out of sight
Like you
But the radiance remains
Ever so visible
In dreams I scuttle with reptilian figures
That make your skin crawl
Demons take up residence
They transfer reality with worn out carpets, broken records
They ask over and over why
Why you didn’t love me enough to stay
Your description of me is lodged in my universe:
I wear animal skins, high heels and pink tights, I’m six feet tall
And men are afraid of me
When the sun climbs the trellis,
The sunflowers raise their giant heads
I stand next to them in the light,
And the reptiles hide under rocks
