In those bleak fields that so quietly lie - stilled as graves, Between where the thin wind creaks and upwardly heaves, Unseen feet can sometimes be heard Shuffling through the old woods discarded leaves. For i have seen those strange distant lights That detach themselves from heavens spilling crowds; When dropping over the blindside of the little ridge They rise to leap from cloud to cloud. Impossible angles of inexplicable darting momentum - Inwardly gyrating wheels now ingeniously turning; Marvelous these the strange crafts of unknown design... Yes - I have seen the night skies burning! For well i remember as a reckless child How i stole out to ascend that one forbidden hill: Cast deep plans, set the clock ticking accordingly, Rose, wrapped myself against Novembers raw chill. Deep inside the Beech-hanger the Plough was struggling, And over the despairing holt a devisive breeze... As, of a sudden, on the edge of swirling darkness - Showered particles upon vapourous ethers so violently seized! Oh the hissing bolts of sizzling electrons - Brilliance of colours like a dying meteors last rites! Anti-Graviton paradox of mastered equational conundrum Igniting the latent freeze within winters sharp night. Radiant orb held aligned by polar-opposites forceful lines, Spinning upon a singular point with such consummate ease; Roaring furiously liken fabled dragon of Arthurian legend, Hot breath licking across lines of illuminated trees. Momentary seconds that crept alongside an age enraptured Amidst tumbling thoughts of - "Just another Alien abductee"! Then, gently tilting starboard, accelerating smoothly away, Vanishing over the stacks and tiled rooftops of nearby Walton-Lea. Often have i wistfully pondered in ever hopeful, watchful years: What was it so witnessed as it hung before me in suspended flight? And - with many cramming thoughts - groping for answers sought - Recalling the wondrous moment of such an awe-inspiring sight!

This is a true story, Patricia -- it really did happen!! I have modified (using poetic licence) the incident somewhat regarding when, where and with whom else...but, the actual sighting is exactly how it appeared, at that time, to me. I will never, never forget it -- it was simply - "Awe inspiring"!!! All my very best, Patricia - Cheers! :) john

To one who sees mystery within eternal skies, both concave and convex. Our burning bushes are custom shaped, perhaps. To epiphany, my thanks.

Just thought i would add a little explanation here. This incident took place in approx 1974, i was about 13 at the time. The area Walton lea is on the southern side of my home town of Warrington in the county of Cheshire. The area rises up to what amount to small foothills overlooking the river Mersey basin. The "Forbidden hill" is the massive underground reservoir right at the top of the most prestigious golf club in warrington; of limits to all cheeky small inquisitive children...just like me!

In the early seventies Walton Lea had more UFO sightings than anywhere in Britain. I am not for one minute suggesting that it was of Alien origin - just recounting the facts as i remember them! Makes one thing a little...does it not!? :) john.

Your "Anti-Gravitational..." line, what a masterpiece. Lovely swirling piece of poetry. I found myself reading it in a Ginsberg voice (old You Tube footage of "Howl") I hope you don't mind.

Woah a sublime poem rendered in fantastic diction and I always find intellectual terms admirable but u have employed them ever so impressive, from sizzling electrons to conundrum to gyrating wheels wow, mind blowing. The scenes and imagery thus becoming extraordinary in wording which is what is awesome about the poem. The last stanza sums it all then so superbly. Nice to read u again.

Hi, Nette. This poem recalls a true incident that took place when i was thirteen. It has had a lasting impact on me ever since. I have to say i did not find it at all frightening...in actuality rather more spiritual. I am not endorsing an alien encounter, just recounting what happened. My very best regards, Nette!! :) john.
