Winter Magic Contest ~ Sponsored by Tania Kitchen

January 8, 2024

Something wondrously magical happens when winter appears My thoughts find joy when they turn to holidays and cheers I find myself running to catch snowflakes on the tip of my tongue And doing other enchanting things I enjoyed when I was young I welcome the sunshine on wintry days because it keeps me warm Unlike the heat of it in summertime, which has become the norm Often, I've dreamed of being in a scene painted by Currier and Ives Riding with loved ones in a horse drawn sleigh on leisurely drives Although winter's frosty breath is chilly, and leaves my lips cold The abundance of bewitching beauty is quite mesmeric to behold When the winter world around me becomes a frozen moonlit stage I'm inspired to write seasonal poetry about its magic, page after page

My thoughts exactly, Lin! This is so playful with the rhythmic cadence of snowfall. Just magical! In high school I acquired a book of Christmas carols with a picture of a family welcoming visitors in a sleigh at their front door. That picture inspired me to go Christmas caroling! Also, the trio, I sang in, always sang Sleigh Ride at Christmas. Love the line about Currier and Ives! Blessings!

Lin, congratulations on your first place win with your beautiful winter poem. I am a Currier & Ives collector and the imagery in your poem does remind me of their beautiful winter prints.

Oh, how wonderful that you collect Currier and Ives. Ever since I was a young girl, I've admired looking at their paintings and imagining myself in them. Thanks for placing my entry in your contest, Tania!

Ahhh!! It has its benefits, but also it danger and ability to mess up our plans. Thanks for sharing your nostalgia and magic in this one. If for a contest, it reads like a good contender to me. Way to go. Sara K

I do miss the snow from my childhood, but on the bright side, I don't have to shovel the yard for my dogs.

I only miss the first snow. After that it was mush. Thanks for commenting, Rob.

Smashing wintry words, Lin. I can truly see winter’s charms… I just like to be inside, looking out. Maybe I’ve frozen my wotsits off on too many river banks! (In case you’re wondering… I’m a fisherman… not a weirdo!) Terry

It’s ok, Terry. You can be both. Lol. I haven’t been fishing in ever so long. Thanks and take care of those wotsits.

a lovely and captivating seasonal poem, Lin. I especially liked "the abundance of bewitching beauty is quite mesmeric to hold" So true. Winter is enchanting in its own way. Have a great evening, hugs, Sara

What sweet tidings you offer with your 'cheers' David. Makes me wish the holidays were yet to come. I've been writing lots of things, but not finishing them lately. Two little girlies have been taking up my time. Thanks very much for your support.
