When Winter Sleeps

When winter sleeps… ….earth’s colors drain, like falling rain again and again its steady strum, a hypnotic song a quiet lull, a settling balm. When winter sleeps… …the weighty clouds, like blankets cover they hover…over the colorless landscape nameless shapes, in washed out dreams all creatures pause to rest…it seems. When winter sleeps… ….fairy tale dustings of snow fall freely over groves of trees where tiny sparrows huddle with relief nestling, wing on wing, for warmth and ease. When winter sleeps… …snow locks the earth in shackles and captures the burrowing bear to submit to the rhythm of the season… …when winters sleeps.

Beautifully written and displayed…like falling snow, Laura, but it’s cold, cold, cold right here in Dallas this morning - and I hope winter wakes up and moves on down the road real soon!

What a lovely, captivating poem dear Laura. I love the descriptive imagery you have created. Although all sleeps in winter with ‘ earth’s colour drain’ I see much beauty in your wonderful poem. So poetically well written ,’ fairy tale dustings of snow’’ snow locks the earth in shackles’. Loved it! Thank you for sharing. Hugs and blessings :):)

Your poem skilfully captures the essence of winter through evocative imagery, rhythmic language, and a reflective tone. It invites readers to visualize the hushed beauty of winter, where nature takes a restful pause before the vibrant resurgence of life in the coming seasons.. I like the emotional tone to it..
