When I Get To Juarez
"¿Quién es? ¿Quién es?" were the words on my lips
As I woke with a jolt in the night
Could tell by the way that the stillness just hung
Something about this 'aint right
Been hidin' out for too long in this place
At dawn for Mexico I ride
Now a sip of whiskey and some water on my face
Strap my Colt forty-four to my side
I swear to you Lord, when I get to Juárez
I'm gonna start a new life
Its time I left all this killin' behind
Gonna find me a farm and a wife
Oh I know they been trackin' me all the way here
But I'm always one step ahead
And Lord, one day you'll want answers from me
But it 'aint time for that yet
Can tell it's too quiet as I move down the hall
And enter the room at the end
The shadowy outline I see in the dark
It don't belong to my friend
"Who is it? Who is it?" were the words that I spoke
As I dropped and gasped my last
And I thought well I guess it's my time after all
But this ride was over too fast
