Whatever Will Be Will Be
“Whatever Will Be Will Be”
Picture a little girl, brown eyes and brown hair
Small in frame and height; skipping along
Wearing a soft blue, light cotton dress; no shoes on
The school year has just ended; she finished grade three
With the weight of school lifted, she is relieved.
The soft breeze playfully tagged along beside her
Her smile, almost a laugh
Filled with the first intoxicating taste of spring, feeling giddy and free
This girl was me.
I was headed to my favorite spot, hidden in the open
At least for a little while, not found
Pebbles in a pile; “Way up high”
I sang out loud, out of tune
The song, “Over the Rainbow”
Over and over again, hoping to get it right
So perfectly performed by Dorothy in the movie
Beautiful, as she sang; I thought, “Maybe I can sing someday.”
I was once in the school choir
All who tried out sang on stage; never-the-less,
The gift of expression was received by the audience
The years went by; I acknowledged my voice as it is
I no longer wished to hold onto a lofty dream
My underlying desire was to matter in some way
A return to school; I was in my thirties
My degree---
School Psychology.
“Should I paint pictures, Should I sing songs?”
“Que Sera, Sera.”
