To appreciate our planet; begin with its snowcapped mountains, where sunbeams morph crystals of ice into gems of glistening light. Witness white clouds traverse the skies floating on a vista of blue, or a setting sun smear scarlet onto puffs of marshmallow white. See jungles at its equator create a sash of vibrant green, and burnt sands ripple its deserts with shifting dunes of tans and creams. See its leafy forests change from deciduous to evergreen, and tundra pitted with blue lakes fade to stretches of virgin snow. Watch volcanoes erupt in flame spewing plumes of ebony smoke, and lava bleeds from gaping wounds while giving birth to molten earth. See azure and aquamarine waves crested with white foamy froth, or its tilted poles capped in ice sparkling like crystalline jewels. View it from afar as it twirls within the vacuum of space, as a phantasmagorical cerulean marble, called Earth.

This is such a gorgeous description of our planet, it should be used by Save the Earth groups. It's so sad that we treat Mother Earth so poorly, then expect her to be kind to us.

Emile, your word choice is elegant and awe-inspiring. This is a Fave for me. You take us on a round-the-world guided tour of what makes our Earth unique, starting with the "snowcapped mountains", and ending with the oceans and "tilted poles". Then you transport us into outer space so we can "View it from afar as it twirls within the vacuum of space." Your image is perfect. Congratulations on your win on Mile 9 of my 2022 Poetry Marathon Contest. Keep your running shoes on, because Mile 10 has already started!

What a beautiful poem Emile and so relevant and topical after COP26 in Glasgow. Let’s hope we can all do everything in our power to preserve our precious home for future generations. As Neil Armstrong said “It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn't feel like a giant.”
