Unmerited Favor

My name is Miriam, the prophetess I have spent my whole lifetime in slavery Moses my brother was saved from the river and grew up in the palace of Pharaoh the king. But now I see that God was preparing him to set the slaves of Israel free today the Lord has thrown the foe’s horses and riders into the sea. So I praise God for unmerited favor and I thank him for his undeserved grace and I rejoice that his goodness and mercy shall follow me all of my days My name is Mephibosheth, I live in the palace of royalty; every meal I eat is a banquet, and every day I say ‘how can this be?’ I bring nothing to the table but crutches and a sinful and bloody family line, my father’s father tried to kill the anointed one, and I’m living on borrowed time. So I praise God for unmerited favor and I thank him for his undeserved grace and I rejoice that his goodness and mercy shall follow me all of my days My name is Mary Magdalene, I confess I have walked down the sinners’ path I have known the curse of man’s judgment and I have known the fear of God’s wrath. Until I met this Jesus the Nazarene only he could see past my sin he showed me he was the way to forgiveness he purified me from within. So I praise God for unmerited favor and I thank him for his undeserved grace and I rejoice that his goodness and mercy shall follow me all of my days.

There are so many places of biblical graces we know not how many or how. But Jesus the carpender stays so busy He's even at work right now.

Hi John, through these three biblical characters who received unmerited favor from Jesus, you are reaffirming the fact that Jesus is ever forgiving and merciful ! The only condition is that at one turn of life at least we should meet Him, express our contrition and thank Him for whatever blessings we have received from Him. It was a pleasure going through this poem... ! I don't know much about Mephibosheth. I love the refrain and shall study it by heart to recite it now and then. My Fav.

Refreshing piece, John, on three unsung spiritual giants, totally unrelated except for their faith in God. All singing the same song of thanksgiving, praise and worship. Excellent use of repetition. Very well done with biblical integrity.

Hi John, I love the stories you have put into your poem. This is an excellent write. God is ever willing to bless and show the way, all we have to do is see. I guess I only know about Miriam because I have watched the ten commandments many times. The second, I new nothing about, what does that say about me, John. Mary Magdelene, I knew. I shall ever follow the way. Has to be a fave, John. Have a wonderful evening ..... Mike.

Mike, you are not alone in being unfamiliar with the story of Mephibosheth. I think you would appreciate it, though. It's a great story of unexpected grace and mercy. Thank you for your kind comment, it's good to see you at Soup again, my friend ~ John

Your theological scholarship presenting the themes of hope and forgiveness are fascinating and inspirational. I'm sure this is quite tuneful. Robert

Robert, I'm glad you enjoyed these lyrical renditions of the biblical accounts I chose to represent God's undeserved favor. The tune has kind of a folk song feel to it, played with acoustic guitar. Thanks for stopping by ~ John

My favorite Old Testament story is about Moses. His destiny shaped the future of thousands and more. Mary was a disciple of Jesus. According to the Gospel accounts, Jesus cleansed her of seven demons, and she financially aided him in Galilee. She was first to witness his resurrection. I feel they may have married. There have been documentaries stating that. I enjoyed your beautiful poem John. Blessings xxoo

Connie, so glad you had an affinity for those two biblical characters and could relate to them in these lyrics. Then there's the invalid Mephibosheth, a VERY minor character, but an undeserving yet grateful recipient of grace nonetheless. Thank you for your uplifting comment and friendship. Blessings ~ John

Lovely lyrics, John. I'm familiar with each of your examples and have personally experienced the grace, mercy and forgiveness of God. His love through the gift of his son as my savior is beyond words. Eternal life just for accepting his gift offered to all of us. The best deal ever offered. Praise God from whom all blessing flow. Thanks for sharing God's Love through your poetry, John. A poet friend in Texas, Bill

Historically factual John. Receiving Gods loving Grace we are not worthy of but only by believing in him repenting of sin we receive it. Lovely examples of that Special grace written here. Your words convey your knowledge of biblical stories of these individuals. It is only when you read and understand Scripture fully that you can appreciate and include these fine examples of people that were forgiven, that God used to share to the world of his love and redemption. Your insight and knowledge

Thank you, Michael. I was blessed to be born to a mother who was a Bible teacher. I was taught many stories from an early age and have continued to learn the Scriptures throughout my life, thanks to many good teachers, writers, and preachers. Glad you enjoyed this and thank you for the generous comment ~ John

I don't think I even heard of the first two, so that was sure interesting, but I absolutely loved the third stanza about Mary. Great poetry, as always, John.

Yep, the first two were minor characters in the Bible. All three experienced unearned grace so I wrote this song about them. Thanks for the visit and always supportive comments!

Very moving, John, I like that the stories share a theme of forgiveness and thankfulness, and the refrain brings a sense of hope for everyone who is struggling through dark times~

Mary Magdalene is my favorite saint. So much bad things have been said about. El Greco's painting of he is great.

Yes her faith in Christ was exemplary. I will look up the El Greco painting. Our local art museum has a beautiful El Greco called "The Penitent Saint Peter". Thank you Victor, for the tip and the visit ~ John
