Theodore Drake

Tediously bored, Sir Drake Prolonged afternoon of tea and cakes Jam coats his chin with gooey paste A beard of crumbs hangs from his face His manner somewhat hard to grasp Small fingers smother giddy laughs. . To sup he’d need a tuning fork to confound the smacks from lamb and pork. Lanky strands of cabbage slaw. Gravy splashes grease his jaw Pastries flurry dandruff flakes A grubby mess, grandiose Sir Drake Theodore Aka Teddy Bear With soggy paws and matted hair Needs a scrub from his stout chin to the furry spats about his shins. Carried off by loving arms A bath restores his stately charm.

Childhood has such precious moments, loved the idea of teddy being fed, must have been a girl and maybe she needed a bath too. How are you Mikki, nice to find one I haven't read! Love, Lizzie

I must comment again on one of my favorite of your poems. I think Sir Drake would like to clean up my Humpty Dumpty. I go bowling today. If you are Catholic, say 100 hail Marys for me. The game wears me to a frazzle anymore. Happy Easter to you and the priceless Kiwi. Hugs, daver

Yes! Throw that damn thing in the tub! And while you're at it, throw Sir Drake in with it, or are they one and the same? Whatever. You are so charming, Mikki, I get smothered with giddy laughs. Love, daver

Mikki, I fell in love with your childlike imagination of this VERY MESSY teddy bear with his soggy paws and matted hair...In my mind's eye I envision a very worn Steif bear that has been carried around to every venue of this child's life...I think this is absolute poetry perfection...I believe I already saved this the other day when I read it at work but couldn't comment...standing ovation, Mikki! gwendolen

After that, I am the one who needs a bath! The charm is buried underneath, somehow. Enjoyed.\ -Dean
