The Void In My Heart

my hands hang heavy and useless by my side fingers that stroked your thick white fur feel lost i burst into bolts of tears they fall into the lifeless void where you sat and kept me company the silence smacks me hard i want to hear your happy pants memories flood over me til i’m drowning inside i long to see your devoted face and loving eyes to relive those happy, carefree moments but the deafening void clings to me mercilessly backyard trees droop sadly to the ground the yard is empty without your paws patrolling the paths i cannot hear the birds chirping in the trees i cannot see the butterflies meandering in the garden i cannot smell the sweetness of the jasmine for the void is too vast and too deep one cannot stop the waves from crashing into the shore. 8/3/2021

Congrats! Thanks for sharing this... It's my prayer that the void in your heart will be filled with the peace and bliss of the Lord... midst and after your grieving moments. I can relate with you since we had our share of "pet-loss." God bless you.

So very sad, Laura. The experience of losing an animal friend is both haertbreaking and heart wrending! You have described that unwelcome silence and loneliness perfectly! Congratulations on your win! Blessings to you and your empty heart. So many can relate to your words!

Laura, Fine title for a poem with a meaningful end. The hole they leave on our hearts., though we enjoyed every moment while they were near. I wonder what it was like when you called his name 'Sherlock!' across a busy park. -Richard

I liked the imagery you used here. My condolences concerning your loss. My Boo is slowing down and I am already missing him. What was your dog's name?
